Cowden out to beat Peterhead for a fourth time

Manager Lennon is looking for good performance against Peterhead.

AFTER getting two games played in the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division after the freeze Cowdenbeath were back in cold storage on Saturday.

Things looked good on Friday for the top of the league clash with Stirling Albion going on but severe frost in the early hours of Saturday put the game in jeopardy.

It led to a mid morning inspection and that put paid to the fixture which was hastily re-arranged for Tuesday. Only two second division games went ahead with Brechin City drawing at home to Stenhousemuir and Alloa Athletic beating Arbroath at the Recs, a result which pushed the Wasps to within a point of Cowden on Saturday night.

For everyone at Central Park Saturday was a very frustrating day. The manager Danny Lennon said, "Things looked good on Friday but the frost overnight was pretty severe and left the pitch very hard. It was disappointing because we were hoping to get back into a run of games but then these are the sort of things which happen at this time of year."

Cowden are at home again this Saturday with Peterhead the visitors and the manager is hoping for kinder conditions for a game against a team the Fifers have beaten three times this season.

"With a bit of luck the weather will be milder this weekend and will allow the game to go on because we need to be playing and winning matches," added the manager.

"We have a good record against Peterhead this season but they have improved as the season has gone on and it will certainly not be an easy game.

"Then we face Alloa Athletic at Recreation Park on Tuesday so things will start to get pretty hectic soon."

Injured defender Joe Mbu was unlikely to be fit for last Saturday and may struggle for this weekend but Darren McGregor is fit again and looking for action.

Also back to full fitness is striker John Dempster who has taken time to recover from a public bone injury but he is also desperate to see first team action.

With midfielder Danny Mackay also back in full training the Cowdenbeath resources for the run-in are looking formidable.
