COWDENBEATH got back into action after the freeze at New Bayview on Saturday and stretched their unbeaten run in the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division to eleven games.
And with nearest challengers Stirling Albion's match postponed the Blue Brazil stretched their lead at the top of the table to three points.
As you would have expected it was a really hard fought affair with the Methil men putting up stern opposition. Cowden had not had a game since mid December and it showed at times with the passing a little off the pace but one thing that was not missing was the one for all attitude. Twice Cowden had to come back and even losing the second goal very late in the game they never gave up and deserved to maintain their unbeaten run.
Manager Danny Lennon was pleased to get the season back into action and also delighted with his side's workrate.
He said, "After missing several weekends we were really looking forward to this game and it was a really hard match.
"It was a very entertaining game with play swinging from one end to the other and plenty of goalmouth action. There was a bit of rustiness about both sides and it affected the defending qualities more than anything.
"I felt that over the piece we were worth a point and the important thing was that we never gave up and kept battling away even after they got their second goal with not long to go and were able to grab the late leveller."
Talking about being asked to leave the touchline by referee John McKendrick on Saturday the manager said, "I felt we were on the wrong end of a few decisions and the frustration built up. It was one of these things that happens in football."
Cowden are away again this Saturday when they play Dumbarton who were again out of action last weekend.
Sons were in the middle of a good spell when the bad weather arrived so the Blues will find it hard work on the banks of the Clyde. Added Mr Lennon, "We want to keep the return to action going but we know that Dumbarton will make life tough for us.
"However, we know we have to get results at places like this if we want to maintain our place at the top of the table and if we show the same attitude as at Methil we can get the result we want."
Cowden will still be without suspended defender Kenny Adamson and Joe Mbu was receiving treatment this week and may be a doubt after his Bayview groin injury but there were no other major injury problems from last Saturday so it is unlikely there will be many changes.
