Blues hoping for better weather

COWDENBEATH will be hoping the weather improves for this weekend after last Saturday's postponement of the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division match with Arbroath.

After some incredibly hard work by players and ground staff on Friday Central Park was playable at tea time.

What snow there was on the pitch was cleared and covers put down but the temperature overnight plunged to minus seven and when the referee's inspection took place at 10am there were a number of areas frozen hard.

It was a big disappointment to everyone at Central Park. Said development manager Keith Harvey, "A lot of hard work was put in on Friday and to be fair the pitch was looking pretty good by late afternoon.

"However, the temperature fell dramatically overnight and penetrated the covers which led to the postponement."

The game has now been pencilled in for Saturday 9th January as both sides are out of the Active Nation Scottish Cup.

Now Cowdenbeath boss Danny Lennon is hoping that this weekend's match at Recreation Park goes on against Alloa Athletic.

Said Mr Lennon, "It was very disapppointing that all the good work done on Friday was beaten by the cold weather but hopefully we will get a game this Saturday.

"We have played Alloa three times already this season and each game has been very close so it is unlikely that this Saturday will be any different.

"Hopefully we can get the result we want to maintain our lead at the top of the table."

Cowden will be without Kenny Adamson, red carded against Stenhousemuir, but midfielder Craig Winter and defender John Armstrong should be fit as will striker Gareth Wardlaw.
