The result of Cowdenbeath's opening fixture of the new season could be rendered null-and-void by the Scottish Football League.

The Blue Brazil were promoted on Wednesday after Livingston were relegated two tiers when the club breached league rules relating to insolvency.

The West Lothian club are now expected to meet Cowdenbeath's former first day opponents, East Stirlingshire, while the Blue Brazil are set to host Arbroath.

The SFL said today that the results are provisional pending an appeal by Livingston.

The club - now under the stewardship of a consortium led by former Cowdenbeath chairman, Gordon McDougall - had 10 days from Wednesday to lodge an appeal and were deciding their next course of action yesterday.
