A DRAMATIC end to a season which held a lot of frustrations for Cowdenbeath fans, players and directors.

After worrying the excellent 1,762 crowd in the first-half ,they stepped up their levels in the second period and Cove Rangers, not used to losing this season, simply fell apart and really should have been put to the sword.

However, victory was what it was all about for the Blues and they got the result they needed to preserve the club’s 113 year membership of the Scottish League.

Manager Gary Bollan was happy in some ways but is determined that the team does a lot better next term.

He said after the match: “We had a big job to do but in the first-half the performance was flat despite getting the first goal.

“We had a few words at the break and the lads really took the game by the scruff of the neck and we could have scored more than three.

“But the important thing was winning and now I want to look at what we can do to ensure that next season we are competing hard at the other end of the League 2 table.

“We will have a few days off and then get down to looking at what sort of strengthening is possible.”

Scorer of the winner Brad Smith was just so happy to see the ball hit the net: “I saw Kyle Miller with the ball and he squared it and noticing their ‘keeper was at the edge of the box I just felt I could guide it into the net.

“I thought I had hit it too high at first but then saw it dip nicely under the bar but I felt we were worth a few more goals in the second-half as we went forward steadily. However, winning was what it was about.”

Scorer of a double, Harvey Swann, who has been at the club since a young boy said: “It was so important to win the game.”

And on the second goal, which curled in from all of 30 yards, he said: “I aimed to curl the ball towards the far post and deceive their defence and it worked a treat and I was so pleased to see it hit the back of the net.

“We really improved after a poor first-half and in the second we played well, but we have to look to next season play week after week like that.”

Cove struggled over the two legs to cope with Cowden’s big centre forward Jordyn Sheerin, on loan from Kelty Hearts, and he said: “I have really enjoyed my three months at Cowdenbeath and the crowd for the Cove game showed what the club means to the town.”
