A DRAW at Central Park on Saturday was really no use to either side but it was the right result, for the Blues were in charge in the first period with Stenny having the better of the second.

The Cowden midfield were prominent in the first-half with Kyle Miller, Blair Malcolm and Brandon Luke posing Stenhousemuir plenty of problems.

It gave a decent supply of good passes to the three pronged strike force but only Jordyn Sheerin took advantage to hit the net.

There were plenty of good chances for the Blues in the first-half but a mixture of good goalkeeping and off target shooting saw them fail to get the goals they needed and in the second they faded.

In three minutes minutes Cowden’s Harvey Swann’s low left foot drive was brilliantly blocked on the line by Stenhousemuir skipper Michael Dunlop.

Then two minutes later Ross Dunlop was the visiting saviour when Luke’s drive was beating ‘keeper Chris Smith but the defender appeared on the line to clear. In 11 minutes Swann again got free on the edge of the Stenny box and his drive was saved by the diving Smith.

In 19 minutes Stenny’s Ruaridh Donaldson hit the Cowden woodwork with a 25 yard free-kick but seven minutes later Miller’s eight yard header flew just over.

Then in 37 minutes Stenny took the lead. The home defence was caught out by a cross from the left and Mark McGUIGAN powered a header into the net from six yards out, but within a minute SHEERIN took the ball off Ross Meechan and powered a low shot past Smith from eight yards.

Stenny made a good start to the second period and Eddie Fearns made a good run into the Cowden box and his low 14 yarder went inches wide but in 65 minutes a Mullen free-kick looked perfect for Sheerin only seven yards out but he missed his header.

Cowden lost their way in the second period and chances dried up for them and their efforts from two free-kicks, which were way off target, summed things up.
