COWDEN got the 27 game without a win monkey off their back with a fine performance against Elgin and manager Gary Bollan wants the standard maintained in the club’s remaining games.

Cowden closed to within 12 points of Berwick Rangers in their bid to avoid the Pyramid play-offs but they must repeat this sort of form in every game.

The manager said: “It was something we have been threatening to produce for some weeks.

“Last Tuesday, at Edinburgh City, we played really well and should have won the game and the first-half performance against Elgin was first class.

“Despite the strong wind we played some great football and created so many really good chances.

“Maybe we should have been three or four up but even at two we looked comfortable, then they scored a fine goal and you wonder how the lads are going to deal with the situation.

“However, we weathered the storm well and finished strongly and scored a very good third to clinch the points.”

But looking ahead he said: “The lads have set the benchmark. They showed what they are capable of and we need a whole lot more of that between now and the end of the season.

“If we can get some consistency we can start to put together a series of match winning performances which will help our cause greatly.”

And the manager had lots of praise for new striker Jordyn Sheerin: “Jordyn showed in that game what a very good front player he is.

“He held the ball up superbly and made really good passes, bringing his team mates into the game and to boot scored a good goal and was involved in the other two.

“That was excellent and he, David Cox and Robbie Buchanan were dangerous throughout the game. Again we need much more of the same in the games coming up.”

Cowden play Stirling Albion on Saturday at Forthbank and with the Albion looking to finish in the top four and promotion play-offs there is plenty to play for.

Said Mr Bollan: “If we can produce the sort of form we did at Ainslie Park and on Saturday we can win this game.

“That will be our aim and it should be a very good game.”

After Saturday Cowden are in action again on Tuesday when they play Clyde at home with a 7.45pm start.

If they could collect six points from these games it could kick-start their entire season.

Meanwhile centre-back David Syme was been released by the club and has joined troon Juniors.
