WHILE Cowdenbeath were out of action on Saturday Edinburgh City took advantage to add another three points to their tally and leave the Blue Brazil 15 points adrift, albeit with one game in hand.

It looked as if the Montrose game was set to go ahead on Saturday morning when the pitched passed a referee’s inspection at 9am.

However, incessant rain continued to fall and it made the club concerned and another inspection was called for at noon.

This found pools of water on the surface and the official had no hesitation in calling the fixture off.

While all this was happening Edinburgh City went to Annan and were three up after 66 minutes and although the Athletic pulled two goals back City hung on for three key points which could make all the difference come May.

However, Cowden had a chance to make a statement last night (Tuesday) when they played City and meanwhile Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan is hoping that his players can get some action this weekend when Elgin City come to Central Park.

Elgin are still in with a chance of making the top four and the promotion play-offs so there will be no easy points on offer this Saturday.

But City have lost ten games this season and have suffered some big defeats on the road so Cowden will be looking to win this one.

Mr Bollan is desperate to get his team winning games regularly no matter what the future holds, and that includes Saturday against Elgin.

He said: “It was a big disappointment to have yet another match postponed for so much work had gone into getting it on.

“We need to get a run of matches and hopefully start picking up some points and wins.

“Clearly we need to get a run of wins to catch the clubs above us and the important one is the first victory after this run of matches without a win.

“We have to get that monkey off our back as soon as possible and it will do so much for our confidence levels.”

The team had a training session on Saturday afternoon after the game was called off at Beath High School’s artificial surface and the coaching staff were stressing how important it is for the Blue Brazil players in every position to give the game total concentration.

He added: “We need to stop making the errors that have cost us winning positions in games and improve our match management.

“If we can get some wins on the board what a difference it will make.”

The Montrose game means that Cowden have five matches to re-arrange. Already set down have been the Edinburgh City match (last night), Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on March 20 (7.30), Clyde home on March 27 and Montrose home April 3. The Stirling Albion away game is likely to follow on April 10.
