Cowdenbeath 0, Peterhead 2.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-216

A DECENT performance from Cowdenbeath against one of the better teams in the division but still there were no points for them at Central Park on Saturday.

For once there was no gale blowing down the park and Cowdenbeath had a lot of the ball without setting up any really clear chances.

The midfield kept Peterhead pretty quiet but there was not enough in the way of clear openings for Cowden.

Cowdenbeath had two debutants in their squad in the shape of left-back Jordan Hornby; and striker Jordyn Sheerin, on loan from Kelty Hearts, and both did well.

Hornby defended solidly and his long thrown was a useful attacking element. Sheerin showed some nice touches but there were just not enough quality chances coming from the Blues.

As the visitors started brightly Russell McLean’s dangerous 12 yarder was blocked in the home six yard box by David Syme.

And in 17 minutes they took the lead. Willie Gibson’s cross from a free-kick on the right took a deflection off a home defender and there was McLEAN, unmarked, with a powerful eight yard header which gave Dave McGurn no chance.

Cowden on several occasions had the ball in promising situations in the Peterhead box but were unable to get a shot on target.

Nine minutes from the break the visitors threatened yet again when Aidan McIlduff sent over a good cross from the left and McLean fired an eight yarder just wide but at the other end Ben Reilly headed just wide.

Cowden started the second-half well and on the hour Hornby fired a free-kick in low and hard which Fleming saved then Reilly blasted high over from just outside the box.

In 71 minutes David Cox sent Brad Smith clean through but as Fleming came out the midfielder clipped the ball over the bar

With ten left Peterhead had their first real chance of the half from another deep Gibson free-kick and Dave McCracken’s header flew wide but in time added on they got their second from TRIALIST after some more poor defending by the home side.
