COWDENBEATH took promotion chasing Stirling Albion all the way at Central Park but at the end of the day it was the same old story, no win.

And manager Gary Bollan said that the game underlined the problems his men have, competing well, but making key errors at both ends of the park which ultimately cost a result.

He said that with 13 games left the Blues must start picking up their game to eradicate the errors which have plagued them so often and did so again against Stirling.

Cowden missed a couple of good chances at one end and gave away a couple of needless opportunities at the other which eventually cost them the game.

And when the team heads for Broadwood this week to face Clyde the manager wants to see his men really concentrate on keeping errors to a minimum.

He said: “When you look at the 90 minutes we played against the third top team in League 2 and any neutral would have wondered which team was in the top three.

“We defended really well at times, but then made a couple of bad errors which cost us dear, and that is something we have to get out of our system fast.

“To often this season we have been doing well in games and then give away a very avoidable goal by a bad mistake and we have to eradicate that.

“It is the same in an attacking sense. We had a superb chance to open the scoring in the first-half when David Cox set up Aiden Malone but he rushed his shot and a good chance was lost.

“We have to stop giving away silly goals and missing good chances, if we do that we can win games, and hopefully we can get a wee bit rub of the green because if we can get the first win under our belt it will raise confidence levels and that can make an extra difference.”

In a bid to tighten his defence he has signed Bryan Gilfillan. The 33 year-old was with Cowden a decade ago and he hopes the former Gretna, Peterhead and Annan player can set the club on the right path defensively.

Added Mr Bollan: “Bryan had a solid game against Stirling and will have benefitted from the 90 minutes. We need him to use his experience to organise us and help ensure we make life difficult for teams to score against us.”

While one player comes in striker Jordan Garden has left after failing to make the breakthrough at Central Park.
