COWDENBEATH face a massive game this weekend in their bid to get away from the foot of Ladbrokes League 2.

The Blues will take on Edinburgh City, at Central Park, on Saturday in the full knowledge that a win is needed to set them on their way to full recovery.

The last time Cowdenbeath won a game was when City played at Central in August and 150 days later Cowden are needing a repeat.

The stats on January 1 showed that Cowden are one point adrift of City so clearly a win would take them off the bottom.

But much more it would give them the launchpad to do that much better in the important coming weeks and months.

Manager Gary Bollan sees it as a big game but then he regards every time his team go out on the park as a match that has to be won.

He said: "I honestly felt that we fully deserved at least a draw at Balmoor.

"We did so well in the first-half, led but it should have been by two anyway, and when we got caught out twice within minutes of the re-start the lads just came right back into things and deservedly equalised.

"The sending off of Robbie Buchanan was a key moment and from where I was it certainly did not look like a red card and other club officials agreed so that is why we appealed it and Robbie was able to play against Montrose.

"Playing with ten in that white hot last few minutes cost us dear and the result was hard to take."

Looking ahead Mr Bollan said: "Every game we play between now and the beginning of May is a huge fixture for the club.

"Our target is to get away from the foot of the table and that is paramount.

"In the few games I have been in charge of I have seen enough to suggest that we can certainly get the results we need, although we need to up our goal output.

"Saturday's game against City is of course so important but first and foremost we need to win to get above them and build confidence."

Buchanan's appeal will be heard on Thursday so it will be known soon after if he can turn out against Edinburgh City.

The manager is also looking around to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the campaign.

He said: "We have a few lads in mind but we will have to speak to them and explain what we are looking for before we will be able to say if we will have players aboard.

"And if some come in it will mean that one or two will have to move on so there could be changes later in January."
