SO after running one leading club close on Saturday, Cowdenbeath have to try and repeat the process this coming Tuesday.

The Blues have no game this Saturday, after having played Annan in a game brought forward to mid November, so with the gap on Edinburgh City still one point with a game in hand, Cowden have to hope that the Capital club don’t pick up much from their game with Clyde this weekend.

The Blue Brazil did really well on Saturday against Peterhead and were worth a point. However, losing a goal in the 93rd minute was hard to take.

Clyde managed to eek out another point in a home goalless draw with Berwick so they are now six ahead of Cowden with a game less played so the Blue Brazil need to start winning games.

However, it will be no easy task to beat the team that is top of the table on their own park.

Montrose have racked up a series of good results since their 3-1 win at Central Park at the start of November and have certainly emerged as strong title challengers.

But after giving Peterhead such a tough game it is surely not a hopeless task.

Cowden boss Gary Bollan was really disappointed at losing to such a late goal at Peterhead: “I honestly felt we should have not lost that game.

“We did so much in a positive sense in that match and really created some good chances and scored two good goals.

“But at the end of the day there were no points for us and that was hard on the lads.”

So Cowden now need to look to go Links Park and play in exactly the same manner as they did in Aberdeenshire.

The home team, under Stewart Petrie’s stewardship, have moved onto a platform which has installed them as title favourites.

But Cowden performed as impressively at Peterhead as they did for the most part against Stenhousemuir last Tuesday night.

In the first-half they had Stenny totally hemmed in and they could easily have been three goals up at the break.

Some missed chances hindered them and in the second period Stenny started to attack strongly and at the end of the day could have won the game.

But Mr Bollan was happy with the show: “We should have scored more than one before the break but missed a couple of really good chances.

“Our match management came under pressure in the second-half and they took over and we had to rely on Dave McGurn to make some good saves late on. However, there were so many positives to take from the match.”

He will be looking for the same sort of performance at Montrose but will have to do without Robbie Buchanan after his red card at Peterhead.

However, David Syme is fit and ready to play as is Shaun Rutherford, Jack Whittaker and Ryan Connelly, so he has plenty to pose Montrose problems.
