AFTER seeing his team well beaten by the best team he feels Cowdenbeath have played this season, boss Billy Brown is hoping his side can start putting together the type of performance seen in the first five matches of the League 2 programme when they go to Clyde this weekend.

In these, they lost three of them unluckily but by a single goal whereas on Saturday the game was all but over after 25 minutes.

The 0-4 defeat to Peterhead has put Cowden bottom of Ladbrokes League 2 and they head for Broadwood for a very important game with Clyde.

The Bully Wee have seven points, but lost at home to Edinburgh City on Saturday so they will be eager to get three points this weekend, while Cowdenbeath will have the same aim.

Said Mr Brown: “Peterhead are certainly the most streetwise and best team we have played in the league this season and to lose a goal in just three minutes gave us a real mountain to climb.

“Our young players had a real struggle to try to keep with them in that opening phase and we lost two goals that were disappointing to concede.

“However, that team had so many streetwise lads in it our youngsters took a long time to get to grips with the game, but to their credit they manufactured a few decent chances before the interval.”

He added: “The second-half saw us have a real go at trying to get back into the game but we missed a couple of chances and that continues to be a problem, getting the ball in the net.”

The manager brought former Hawick Royal Albert striker Josh Morris into the team for the Peterhead match and he gave an experienced defence problems and saw goalkeeper Greg Fleming twice deny him.

Mr Brown added: “I was pleased with Josh for he posed them problems and forced some good saves from the Peterhead ‘keeper and it is something we have to build on.

“We go to Clyde on Saturday, who have a few experienced players of their own, but we proved in the first five games that we can compete and that is exactly what we have to do at Broadwood and if we could get in front that would make a huge difference to the confidence of the team".

The manager has Jack Whittaker back fit again, after his foot injury and he played the second-half on Saturday and came through it fine.

The only injury doubt is right-back Jamie Pyper, who has a swollen ankle, but Mr Brown intends to give him every chance of being fit to face the Bully Wee on Saturday.
