THE fundraising match for Cowdenbeath FC organised by fan Colin Nelson on Sunday was a big success.

Colin contacted a host of former Blue Brazil players and got a tremendous response with some well known and popular stars of the past taking part.

And the fans played their part by paying for a slot in the Blue Brazil and Miners teams and all in all it was a great day, although the weather deteriorated as kick-off approached.

Said Colin: "A couple of late call offs were a bit disappointing but not unexpected as these things happen.

"The game finished 3-3 after some really good football and some excellent individual displays by the former players and also some of fans.

"The teams were evenly balanced with the Cowden Miners team gaining most of the possession, however the Cowden Blue Brazil team went two up before half-time with a great finish by former captain and centre midfielder Jon Robertson and the second goal coming from a fantasic reverse backheel from Murray McDowell to release Man of the Match Craig McMillan to score from a tight angle."

Half time ensured a few changes and early on Blue Brazil went 3-0 up with a goal from former Blues' midfielder Mark Ramsay.

The game changed once the Miners got a goal back through Bryan Gilfillan. Then Pat Scullion scored to make it 3-2 with a screamer from 25 yards.

The game then saw a late goal from fan Stevie Leslie with a tap in from 6 yards to tie things up at 3-3.

The game slowed itself out to a draw and the Miners

completed a well deserved comeback with a 5-4 win on penalties.

Added Colin: "Afterwards everyone went back to match sponsors Wee Jimmies for a buffet

and drinks.

"Man of the Match was Craig McMillan and I am happy to report that we have raised close to £1200 exact figure with £1140 in just now but maybe some more to come in.

"I want to thank all players and fans and officials who participated in the game. My thanks to match sponsors Wee Jimmies and Gary Roy.

"Also thanks to the club for allowing us to play the game and use the facilities as well as helping out during the game.

"The game was about raising money but also about fostering a togetherness between club/fans and players-ex players.

"As the game was a success I hope to make it an annual game and make it bigger and better than before".

Among those taking part were Robbo, Craig Toorie Winter, Murray McDowell, Pat Scullion, Jason Dair, Mark Ramsay, Alan Lawrence, Kenny Adamson and Colin Cameron.
