FANS will have the chance this summer to play with their former heroes and at the same time raise much needed funds to boost the Cowden war chest for next season’s promotion challenge in Ladbrokes League 2.

A special game will take place which will feature a range of Cowdenbeath legends and supporters will get the opportunity to ‘buy’ a place to play alongside them.

The date of the match will be Sunday July 9 with a 1.30pm kick-off at Central Park.

It is being organised by a fan, Colin Nelson, who wants to see the club coffers boosted for the new season and he feels that a lot of supporters will play their part.

The game will consist of 20-25 ex-Cowdenbeath players all from the past, many of whom played big parts in the success story which saw two titles and three promotions won in a space of 10 years.

Said Colin: “We have spoken and got commitments from a number of players who are delighted to be part of the day.

“Players such as Graeme Brown, Bryan Gilfillan, Colin Cameron, Craig ‘Toorie’ Winter, Paul McQuade, Mark Ramsay, Jay Stein, Murray McDowell, Lee Dair, Alan Archibald, Lewis Coult, Mark Baxter, Kenny Adamson and Alan Lawrence and many more!

“These players will be added to by 11 fans able to bid on playing in this game beside or against the favourites from the past.

“The fans can text/call me with their bids or contact me on Facebook with their bids with a message. My number is 07879646318.”

Added Colin: “The cut off date for final bids will be 5pm on Sunday July 2. Fans who bid will be made aware if they are successful by Monday July 3. Bids start at £20 per player.

“I will personally try and advise if they are in the top 11 in order to offer them the chance to increase their bid.”

All the players mentioned played their part in the various successful promotion runs and of course Colin Cameron won the Second Division title and kept the team in the Championship.

There were some who played many, many games for the Blue Brazil but none more than Craig Winter who played almost 400 games for the club, many as captain.

Graeme Brown was a leading scorer for Cowden over a period of years and was a real fans’ favourite in his two spells.

The game will also be sponsored by local business Wee Jimmies and Colin thanked Gary Roy and his staff for this backing.

There will be a buffet after the game at Wee Jimmies so all players/fans are welcome back there after the match.  For those not participating in the game, there’s still the chance to go back to meet with some of their old heroes!

Added Colin: “Entry to the game is donation only as it’s a fundraiser and we would ask for a minimum £2 to get into the game. An auction of some Cowden FC memorabilia will go on after the game, also in Wee Jimmies.

“I would invite families to come down as on the same day the circus will be in town behind the stadium!

“I can’t think of anything better at this time other than to encourage old and new fans to come down to support old Cowden players and the fans lucky enough to play in this game.

"Each fan whose bid is successful will play at least 30 minutes minimum.”
