COWDEN are four points adrift at the bottom of Ladbrokes League 2 and desperately need to get a win.

They face Arbroath this Saturday, at Gayfield, and desperately need to pull off a similar result to the one they achieved in the Betfred Cup when they went there and won.

Edinburgh City are four ahead of Cowdenbeath while Stirling Albion are five to the good, but the Blues have two games in hand over both clubs.

But the problem is that Cowden have won only once in their last eight games and that has to be turned around fast if they are to avoid another relegation play-off situation.

Cowdenbeath have the Lichties away this weekend and then play City at home on Tuesday night and these are so important fixtures for the future of the club.

Cowdenbeath had so much of the ball against Annan but seldom put the visitors’ keeper in trouble and they were denied the point they were probably worth by a fantastic 25 yard volley.

Cowden manager Liam Fox felt that his team just did not do enough against Annan to earn a result: “We had plenty of possession and quite a few efforts at goal but none of them had the stamp of real quality.

“To be honest I do not think their ‘keeper had a difficult save to make and that is a bit of a worry.

“Too often our final decision in and around their box was delayed or the wrong one and it allowed Annan to get back and help out their ‘keeper.

“We have to be more incisive and carve out good openings that can be converted. We really need to get in front in a match.”

He added: “We seem to be waiting for things to happen for us in an attacking sense rather than making them happen and that is a must for us in the two matches coming up over the next week.

“There is little between teams in Ladbrokes League 2 and really every game is winnable but we need to go to Arbroath this weekend and look to come back with points.

“Then next Tuesday we have to seek to end our poor home run by winning against Edinburgh City. If we can get four or six points from these two matches it will make a huge difference and at the same time lift confidence.”

The manager used four of his new signings from the start against Annan with Scott Rumsby, Robbie Buchanan, Dale Carrick and Liam Henderson in the side but the team just did not carve out enough clear chances.

That has to change in these coming two fixtures.
