COWDEN boss Liam Fox says his January recruits will “work their backsides off” to help the club move away from relegation danger.

The Blue Brazil were busy in the transfer window, completing loan deals for Falkirk midfielder Liam Henderson, Livingston striker Dale Carrick and Hearts forward Robbie Buchanan, while defender Scott Rumsby and Northern Irish attacker Matthew Rooney also arrived at Central Park.

Fox also agreed deals to keep both Lewis Moore and goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon until the end of the campaign and he has called on his squad to “do the ugly and simple things well” if they are to haul themselves off bottom spot.

After Saturday’s clash with Elgin City fell victim to what Fox described as a “tsunami”, he and his team face another weekend out of action as scheduled opponents Clyde are on Scottish Cup duty.

That however will give Fox more time to work with his players and he told Times Sport: “We’ll get the players on to the training ground and work on a few things.

"As players and managers you’d rather play but we added a few players in the window so it will give them an opportunity to get used to what we want from them.

“I’ve worked some of them before at a few places so they will have an idea of what I want.

"They all have individual qualities and know what I expect and how I work, so it’s a case of fine-tuning. They are winners, will work their backsides off and compliment what I’ve got.

“We’ve got that competition now which is important for any football club.”

Since beating Clyde on December 3, Cowden have lost six of their last seven matches, with a 2-1 success at Stirling Albion on Hogmanay the only bright spot during that run.

After picking up just 19 points from 21 games, the Blues are three points adrift of safety and face the real possibility of being involved in a nerve-shredding end of season play-off to preserve their league status and avoid a third successive relegation.

But Fox continued: “We need to win games, it’s as simple as that. We need to try and get a performance that brings a win, whether that’s a gritty 1-0 or one where everything clicks and we score a few goals.

"We need to keep concentrating for the full 90 minutes and not just for 45, 60 or 75.

“I don’t think we’re too far away but the squad have to believe that.

"For a football club that is trying to evolve, we need players to dig things out, and to do the ugly and simple things well.”

“We’re going to have a busy end of February and start of March, where we’ll probably be playing Saturday/Tuesday for three out of four weeks.

"We’ll get on the training pitch, and do some fitness work, because we’ll need everybody over the next six weeks or so.”
