SO Cowden find themselves in the trap door position yet again after their third successive home defeat.

The performance against Berwick Rangers was not a good one, but over the 90 minutes a draw was probably the right result, but a little slackness by the home side was punished late on and it cost them dear.

Cowden are back two points adrift at the foot of the table but these points cover five teams.

However, Cowdenbeath face two of these sides in the coming fortnight, Edinburgh City at home this Saturday and then Montrose away the following week, both games that need to be won.

Consistency has been absent from the Cowdenbeath equation all season. After a fine win at Stirling last week they produced another below par home show against a very ordinary Berwick side.

Manager Liam Fox had no excuses when he looked at the performance: “After the really good all round effort at Stirling that was not good enough at all.

“There were not many clear cut chances for either side in the match and it looked like it was going to end goalless, then a few minutes from time we lose a goal to a set piece.

“I praised the players for their show at Stirling but they have to take responsibility for a disappointing overall performance against Berwick.

“They are having to learn fast that using the space on the big Forthbank pitch to move the ball about well is not something that is available at Central Park and you have to battle hard for possession in home games.”

The manager stressed that the players have to adapt quickly to using different styles of play on the surfaces that they face each week and with another home game this week he will be looking for them to battle hard against Edinburgh City.

He added: “Every match is a big one for us and we have to adapt to the conditions and we will have to battle from the first minute against City.

“A win can help us move up the table and we have to seek more consistency in our performances to get the wins we need.”

And he may be looking to a couple of deals this week to help things along: “I am hopeful of bringing at least two players in and that will help us.

“There are areas of the team that needs strengthening and I have a few targets in mind and while it might take time to get them all aboard I would hope we can get two in the side this week.”

He will also have midfielder Fraser Mullen available this Saturday after his one match ban.
