THE win over Stirling Albion took Cowdenbeath off the bottom of the Ladbrokes League 2 table but after a dominating performance Blues’ fans will see the six point gap to fourth spot bridgeable.

The stats really show how tight League 2 is. Cowden are in eighth position, one point ahead of bottom club Berwick Rangers who are their opponents at Central Park this Saturday and Stirling.

Montrose are a point above Cowdenbeath on 20 while Edinburgh City sit on 21 while Annan and Clyde lie in fifth and fourth spot on 25 so there is all to play for.

After Berwick the Blue Brazil will take on Edinburgh City at home so there are opportunities there for Cowden to put pressure on the top four.

Cowdenbeath boss Liam Fox was very pleased with what he saw at Forthbank and commented: “We again had a lot of good quality possession and the passing was good and we had some quality chances

“I was a bit disappointed to lose the equaliser so soon after taking the lead but lads were soon buzzing around the Stirling box again the character they showed was first class. We could have scored more though and had a more relaxing close to the match.”

Delighted to get away from the foot of the table the manager is sticking by his maxim of taking one game at a time although he sees the opportunity that could be presented to look at the top four.

He went on: “It was good to get off the foot of the table but we dearly want to do a lot better than that.

“However, our job this week is to prepare to take on Berwick and pick up all three points which we can do if we keep producing the sort of performance and commitment shown at Stirling.”

Berwick won 2-0 at Central Park earlier this season but since then the Blues have been producing some good performances without getting the results these might have brought.

Berwick are propping up the table but they are only one point behind Cowdenbeath so clearly Saturday’s game is very important.

Cowdenbeath will be looking at stringing a few wins together and if they can do that it could make a real difference to their season.

Instead of trying to keep clear of problems at the bottom end of the table they couple be playing for a play-off place.

Meanwhile Mr Fox had a trialist ‘keeper on the bench on Saturday with regular stand-in goalie Jamie Sneddon now out of contract.

The youngster has been training with Hibs and they are keen on signing him.

There were no injuries from Saturday and it is likely that the Blues will be unchanged for the Berwick clash.
