COWDEN boss Liam Fox could not believe that his side had lost to Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar Athletic, and now he has to prepare his men for a game against the second top side Arbroath this Saturday.

Cowdenbeath lost for the second time this season to the Loons with the last kick of the game and without doubt it was totally undeserved.

They more than match the top side in every department but when your luck is out things really go against you.

And the 92nd minute strike, and results elsewhere, have left Cowdenbeath at the foot of League 2, one point behind Stirling Albion.

But on the other hand they are only three behind fifth so as manager Liam Fox observed, after the game, ‘no one is panicking’.

Forfar undoubtedly carried the luck of a team top of the table and really they could have been well adrift before the winner came for them.

Said Mr Fox: “That was a real kick in the teeth. I could not have asked for any more from the team, they scored some cracking goals, created loads of chances and could have four or five.

“Yes our defending could have been better at a couple of their goals, but to go in to time added on level and to lose to literally the last kick of the game is a big sickener.

“The fact was that it was our second successive defeat yet we played well again and had so many good chances.

“Yes the lads were down at the full time whistle but they know that there was some really good play from them so they will dust themselves down and be ready to start picking up points.”

Cowden are one point behind Stirling, two adrift of Berwick and Edinburgh City and three behind Montrose, and they will be meeting all these sides in the coming weeks.

If they can produce the sort of performance they gave on Saturday they can soon start getting the points on board.

Added the manager: “We know that Arbroath will be a hard game but we also know that if we produce the same sort of show we put on against Forfar we can win it.

“Yes we need to be wary of giving away goals, for without doubt at least one of the Forfar goals should have been avoided but if we keep creating the amount of chances as in the past two games, we are going to get the wins we want.”

However, he will have to take on the Lichties without centre-back Jamie Pyper who damaged a calf muscle on Saturday.

It is likely he will go back to a 4-4-2 formation with Shaun Rutherford at left back and Lewis Moore moving forward, with Nikolay Todorov and Gerry McLauchlan in the centre of the defence.

Fans should remember that the game will have a 1pm kick-off on Saturday.
