COWDEN dropped down two places in the Ladbrokes League 2 table after their defeat at Annan and really need to take something from this weekend’s home game with leaders Forfar Athletic.

The Loons themselves lost last weekend so will be coming south looking to repair the damage.

But the fact is Cowden need points on the board to keep clear of any problems at the bottom end because foot of the table side Stirling Albion are only two points adrift of the Blues.

Forfar have lost their way a wee bit after a stunning start to the season when they picked up seven straight wins so Cowdenbeath should be confident of providing the Station Parkers with plenty of problems.

The stats from Annan showed that the Central Parkers were in the game throughout the match but could not get a goal.

The fact is that Kris Renton has been the only player to regularly score for Cowden so other players are needing to step up to the plate.

Cowdenbeath boss Liam Fox was frustrated to come away with nothing on Saturday: “We had so much of the play and some good chances but just could not buy a goal.

“The thing was that we gave away an early goal, something we had avoided in the past few games, and it helped give Annan a confidence boost and they really battled hard to defend their lead.

“There is no doubt that we should have scored but sometimes we made the wrong choice at key times.

“There were a lot of positives to take from the game but the fact is that we lost the match, and with a match this Saturday against the leaders it does not get any easier.”

However, the Loons have also been having their problems and Cowdenbeath need to go out and ensure that they do not give their opponents any easy pickings.

Said Mr Fox: “Losing an early goal was a real blow at Annan and we have to ensure we defend as solidly against Forfar as we did against Clyde and make life really tough for our opponents.

“If we can get in front it is a different game and that has to be our target this weekend.”

The match has a 3pm kick-off but the following Saturday, against Arbroath, on Christmas Eve, the start will be 1pm so fans should ensure they note that.

Wing back Dean Brett picked up a knock at Annan but should be fit and it may be that the midfield could see a return for either Burton O’Brien or Chris Turner as the Loons have plenty of experience in that department.
