Melissa makes history at Meadowbank
COWDENBEATH Karate Club was well represented at the Scottish Governing Body National Championships took place at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh with all Scotland's registered associations taking part in the year's biggest annual tournament.
Cowdenbeath girl Melissa Maxwell became only the second student in the club's 35 year history to win a gold medal in this prestigous tournament.
Melissa, fighting in the girl's open section, won all her five fights, to finally secure the title after previoulsy finishing second in both the British and English Opens respectively much to the delight of the Cowdenbeath Karate Club coaching team.

Melissa has been training with the Cowdenbeathh Club for nearly five years now, first beginning as a starter under Marie Stein and presently under the guideance of Chris Whyte.
She, along with several other of the Cowdenbeath club members, fight reguarly on the National Karate Circuit across the UK and indeed abroad .
Melissa, along with Cowdenbeath members Jack Sneddon, Bradley Innes, Ben Smith, and Alan Goodwin, have also been selected for the JKS Scotland national team squad and will travel to Nottingham to compete in the English Championships .
The Cowdenbeath club are also now planning towards 2012 where over 25 students are competing in the Malta International Open.
World Champion Paul Newby will be coming to Cowdenbeath before this event to help prepare the local team .
The club trains four nights a week in their open gym , on the Cowdenbeath High Street, and new students yound and old are welcome to attend.
