Cowdenbeath now has an opportunity for the community to take part in fun, social tennis sessions.

With assistance from Active Fife Sports Development and Active schools, already the sessions have proved to be popular amongst adults and children.

Michael Kavanagh, Sports Development, said, "The aim of the sessions is for the community to enjoy the sport and welcome new people. We hope to establish a voluntary club to sustain the activity and compete in fun events with other clubs."

Jessica Sinclair, Active Schools said, "To promote the club we recently organised for children from the local schools to attend the Scottish Tennis Open in Edinburgh. The children had a great time watching professional players to inspire them and take part in fun coaching games with LTA coaches."

Sarah Drury, head of Centre Beath High Community Use added, "It is fantastic to see adults and children playing the sport together.

"Already there is a friendly family feeling to the sessions and we hope to encourage more people to take up the sport. Cowdenbeath used to have a thriving tennis club, we would also like people involved with the previous club to contact Beath Community Use to assist with the new club". With support from Tennis Scotland the sessions take place at Beath High Community Use on a Thursday from 6pm to 8pm. Coaches are available to provide support for beginner players. For any further information or to book a tennis court please contact Beath High Community Use on 01383 602346.
