Foulford pupils display their Kwik Cricket skills at festival

EIGHT teams from the Cowdenbeath area participated in the Kwik Cricket Festival at Beath High School on the astroturf area.

It was the culmination of a programme of visits by cricket coaches.

The weather varied from warm to cool from moment to moment.

The teams participated in their matches with plenty of enthusiasm. The ball seemed to be regularly flying over the boundary for fours and sixes.

In the first set of matches Cowdenbeath A scored a massive 281 runs.

The matches were running to schedule and it became apparent that the yellow shirts of Foulford were doing very well. By the third and final match the two unbeaten teams in Section 1 Hill of Beath A and Foulford B were meeting in a crunch match whilst in Section 2 Foulford A had already beaten their strongest rivals Cowdenbeath A in their section.

As the umpires announced the results the cheers indicated that both Foulford teams had won.

Lindsay Paterson, Active Schools Cricket Development Officer, said, "Having watched most of the matches, it seemed that Foulford were above all the best fielding side and were sharper at running, catching and taking quick runs.

"The two Foulford sides therefore qualified for the Fife Finals on 10th June at Dunfermline.

"Thank you to all the schools that participated. Can I record my appreciation of the help I was given by the class teachers and to highlight the enthusiasm, manners and excellent behaviour of the pupils at all the participating schools.

"Thanks to Jessica Sinclair for co-ordinating the event. Thanks to teachers and auxiliaries.

"Thanks to umpires. Thanks to Beath HS for facilities and kit bags. Thanks also to the Co-operative Community Fund for helping finance the coaching visits."
