WHILE the frost put paid to the Hill of Beath Hawthorn Emirates Scottish Junior Cup match with Shotts Bon Accord the other local sides saw action on Saturday.
Kelty Hearts produced a good win in the East Super League while in the Central League Dundonald Bluebell and Crossgates Primrose were winners, while Ballingry Rovers got through to the next round of the East of Scotland Cup with a win over East Craigie.
Kelty Hearts 5, Lochee United 3.
HEARTS were well worth their emphatic win over Lochee United at Central Park despite having to play 42 minutes with ten men.
Lochee were quick out of the traps and took the lead in in ten minutes but it was not long until Kelty were in the game and Scott Lawrie soon levelled.
Kelty were the better side between then and the break and it was no surprise when Craig Morrison put them ahead two minutes from the interval.
Three minutes after the break Stefan Winiarski was ordered off after a midfield tussle with an opponent and from the free-kick which occurred Lochee levelled the game.
However, Hearts were soon back into their stride and Clark Kay restored the Kelty lead with a shot which flew under the 'keeper but Lochee again squared things up.
This set up a grandstand finish from Hearts and Morrison put them ahead with 15 minutes left and then completed his hat-trick with a minute to go to seal the home win.
Ballingry Rovers 3, East Craigie 1.
DESPITE being a bit ring rusty Ballingry Rovers were good winners over East Craigie in this East of Scotland Cup tie.
Rovers were the better side in the opening stages and took the lead in 25 minutes when Brian McDonough scored from close in.
Ballingry were soon under a bit of pressure and Craigie managed to square the game before the half-time whistle. The second period saw Ballingry start to take charge on the Ore Park surface and when Frank Graham put them in front they were in the box seat.
They had chances to stretch their lead but some off target shooting kept East Craigie in the tie only for Mattie Campbell to ensure a home win in the 88th minute.
Lochgelly Albert 1, Dundonald Bluebell 5.
THIS was very much Dundonald Bluebell's day at Gardiner's Park as they moved into third top spot in the Central League.
Bluebell were a goal up in only three minutes when Robert Hodge headed home and in ten minutes Martyn Thomson beat two defenders and fired home from close in.
Albert started to get more aggressive and they stayed in the picture until the interval.
However, within seconds of the second period starting Steve Hardie's header from a corner had Bluebell in complete charge.
Lochgelly were in trouble and Stuart Luke made it 4-0 before Derek Wallace added number five when he reacted first to shoot home after a great save from Albert last line Colin Rushford.
Lochgelly kept working away and with ten minutes left Andy Barratt scored from the spot after the ball struck Sam Linton's arm.
Lochore Welfare 0, Kirkcaldy YM 4.
THIS Central League game was virtually over as a contest by half-time as Kirkcaldy were soon in charge.
A goal from the spot after a rather soft penalty award had YM looking in good shape and they scored a second soon after.
Lochore had one or two half chances but there was no real openings for them and goal number three before the break ensured the points were heading towards the Lang Toun.
In the second period Greg Sinclair went close with a good lob and Lochore had another couple of chances before player boss Craig Reynolds came on late on in a bid to turn the tide but YM held sway and a fourth in the last minute ensured an away win.
Newburgh 1, Crossgates Primrose 1.
IT was a real struggle for Crossgates Primrose on Tayside but they stuck to their task and came home with the Central League points.
The early stages saw both sides carve out half chances but defences were sound and when the interval came it was no surprise to the fans that the scoreline was blank.
The second period saw Primrose start promisingly and they had two good chances without hitting the net and the longer things went the more Newburgh came into the game.
Indeed, they had the better of the later stages but with four minutes left Colin Paterson latched on to a cross to fire in the winner.
