Crossgates Boccia star, Kieran Steer, has edged closer to competing in the Paralympic Games after winning European Championship silver.
The Disability Sport Fife (DSF) athlete was competing in the European Teams and Pairs Boccia Championships in Surrey at the end of July and, alongside team-mates Stephen McGuire and Evie Edwards, finished runners-up to Slovakia for Team GB in the BC4 pairs event.
Kieran (right), who won his first Scottish BC4 singles title and a silver for Team GB in the pairs at the BisFed World Open last year, helped his team to a 10-0 win over Russia in the last four before going down to a narrow 4-3 loss in an entertaining final.
Gold medal winning teams gain automatic selection for next summer’s Paralympics in Rio but his GB coach, Claire Morrison from Dalgety Bay, is confident that the GB BC4 pairs have accumulated enough ranking points to ensure their own qualification.
Kieran’slatest success comes after he upset the singles rankings to win the gold medal in the BC4 singles at April’s European Continental Cup in Barcelona.
He also teamed up with McGuire and Edwards in the pairs, where another silver medal was achieved against Slovakia following a tie-break, and his strong performances have left him in a good position to become the first Fife high performance boccia player to achieve selection for a Paralympic Games.
