A DRY evening greeted drivers, teams and fans as they gathered at HRP Lochgelly Raceway this past Saturday for the latest slice of stock car action presented by Hardie Race Promotions (in Association with Spedeworth Motorsports).

In fact, there were so many fans in attendance that the programme of events was delayed by ten minutes to allow many of them to gain entry to what was HRP Lochgelly Raceway’s largest domestic attendance to date – on a weekend where many expected a low attendance due to events elsewhere!

When the action did get underway, it was the ProStocks who were first on track.

Lochgelly’s own Jordan Wright was making his 2015 debut while fellow Lochgelly resident, Billy Wilson, was making his second appearance of the season.

With several drivers currently under suspension and others enjoying the holiday period, a slightly depleted field took to the track but spare a thought for Rab Moore, who saw his car’s engine expire during practice!

Edinburgh’s Shane Ramsay claimed victory in heat one, ahead of Dalkeith’s Brian Keir and another Lochgelly resident, Aundre Adams.

Ramsay repeated his winning exploits in heat two as he took the win ahead of Wilson and Adams.

The feature final was a fast-paced race and Brian Keir would have been delighted to see the chequered flag come out to signal his first final win of 2015 after a season plagued by car problems. Ramsay rounded off a good day for himself with a fine second place having been upgraded to blue while Wilson continued his form with another podium finish.

The ProStocks are back in action this Saturday July 18th and this time it is for the Scottish Championship!

The youngsters returned in their Ministox and, with the school holidays now in full effect, a slightly reduced field took to the track.

Former Ninja Kart Scottish Champion, Taylor Borthwick, made her HRP Ministox debut while Ross McWillian and Robyn Bruce also made the trip to HRP Lochgelly Raceway from the north of Scotland.

Lewis Gilchrist took the win in heat one from a hard charging Arran Chidwick and Ross McWilliam, and it would be the same three drivers who claimed the same positions in heat two.

With Gilchrist having won two races, he was automatically upgraded to blue meaning he would start a bit further back but this did not deter the young Penicuik pilot too much as he continued to enjoy his best meeting to date with only Arran Chidwick getting ahead of Gilchrist to claim the feature final win on a good night of Ministox action.

The Stock Rods were back on track at HRP Lochgelly Raceway this past Saturday and Cowdenbeath’s Paul Barron would have enjoyed heat one as the local driver stormed to victory ahead of Jonathan Lattka and Siobhan Martin.

Lattka made no such mistakes in heat two as he claimed his first win in several weeks, ahead of Martin and Kelty’s Darren McAlpine, but spare a thought for Andy Grant who looked to have the race in the bag before his timing belt snapped within sight of victory – hopefully the former British Champion will be back on track soon.

The feature final was an exceptionally fast race with drivers asking for no quarter and none being given with a great battle ensuing between McAlpine and National Points Champion, Siobhan Martin, with Martin just getting the nod ahead of McAlpine in a thrilling race with former track champion Brett Sneddon coming home in third.

The Superstox have taken a recent resurgence in numbers and a fine sixteen cars arrived to do battle this past Saturday.

Given the number of drivers who are currently injured, on holiday or about to make debuts and returns, the formula looks to be in great health as we head towards their Scottish championship on July 25th.

The man on form of late has been David Frame and the Biggar driver re-iterated this point in fine style with a great win in heat one ahead of Glasgow’s Mark Brady and Chris Miller, from Coatbridge, who was making his first appearance of the season in a stunning new car.

Frame had to settle for second place in heat two as Lee Livingston took victory with Miller again posting a fine third place.

The feature final was possibly the best race of the evening with some tremendous bumper action throughout the race but it was that man Frame who once again made his way to the front to claim an excellent heat and final winning double.

Brady rounded off a good night for himself with another runner-up spot while Allan Gibson took third for his best result of the evening to round off a great night of Superstox racing.

Without a shadow of a doubt, many of the spectators in attendance had come to see the final event of the evening as HRP hosted their first ever Caravan Destruction Derby!!!

With around a dozen caravans taking to the track, the promised mayhem did not take long to ensue as the drivers put on a tremendous show for the huge crowd with everyone getting stuck in as the caravan parts went flying!!!

There were some huge hits and great action but smiles all round at the end as Daz Linton claimed the win as the last car to be running with his caravan chassis intact.

HRP were so delighted with the event that they have already confirmed that “Caravan Carnage” will return to HRP Lochgelly Raceway in 2016.

A great event which exceeded the expectations of many regular fans while hopefully attracting a few new ones.

The next slice of stock car action at HRP Lochgelly Raceway comes this Saturday July 18th as the ProStocks compete for their Scottish Championship.

Scotland’s top stock car formula, the HRP 1300 Stock Cars, will also be back in action while the 2.0 Hot Rods and the 6-11 year olds in the Ninja Karts round out a four formula spectacular which gets underway at 6pm this Saturday July 18th at HRP Lochgelly Raceway.
