KIERAN Steer, from Crossgates, continues to excel as an international boccia player and on this occasion it was at the European Continental Cup in Sant Cugat, Barcelona.

Team GB topped the medals table in the first international of the season in the build-up to the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.

There were four Scots in the GB team of ten that won seven medals against the best European boccia players of the present time. Kieran upset the current singles rankings in the BC4 class by progressing through his section undefeated and lifting the gold medal. Kieran also teamed up with Stephen McGuire and Evie Edwards to win silver in the pairs event, losing narrowly to Slovakia in a tie break.

These were the best results to date in a major international boccia ranking tournament by the young Disability Sport Fife member who was honoured recently at the West Fife Sports Council Awards evening. Team GB now heads to the World Open in Poland in June with increased confidence about the season ahead.

Thereafter focus will be on the European team and pairs competition in Guildford on 25th/26th July where a strong performance would secure direct GB qualification for the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Kieran will play a key role in each of these competitions in his attempt to become the first Fife high performance boccia player to be selected for a Paralympic Games.
