ON Sunday it was cold, wet and just not nice, a sure sign that the start to the stock car season is just around the corner!

The second of the practice sessions brought some additional cars to the Cowdenbeath Racewall but the drivers had to be content with getting the cars wet set-ups correct this time!

The latest news is that the appeal that formula II National Points Champion Gordon Moodie (Windygates) launched has not been overturned and that his season won’t start until around the end of July.

This suspension has thrown the race for the National Points Championship wide open, although if you take into account the number of points that Moodie scored last year and the gap to the next driver then if he scores well he could just about retain the title. It’s a tall order but a challenge he might just relish!

Moodie may well decide that he will set his sights on getting good results at the remaining World Championship qualifying rounds to set up a decent grid place in one of the semi-finals, Amongst the Scots who might just be interested in chasing the silver roof could be Liam Rennie (Dundee), Craig Wallace (Tranent), Chris Burgoyne (Airth), Robbie Dawson (Aberdeen) and George MacMillan Jnr (Stepps). Mind you if any do decide that this is to be their target they need to start recording a high points tally at each meeting!

Rennie could well be the most likely to set his sights on the silver roof and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him load up after a Racewall meeting and head south.

MacMillan Jnr intends to show off his gold roof at as many tracks as he can and if he can score well then he could be the driver they all have to catch.

Rennie has switched from the 2 litre Pinto engine to the Zetec whilst MacMillan Jnr has done so but only in his shale car!

Mind you there are a few English drivers that may well fancy their chances of becoming the 2015 National Points Champion.

Amongst the formula II drivers in action at the Racewall was Burgoyne, who was using the car he had last year and he quickly showed that he is going to be one of the drivers they have to catch. Burgoyne will have been installed as the favourite to win the track points championship and whilst he could quite easily do so there are one or two who will have other ideas.

Both John and Brian Hogg Jnr (Berwick) appeared and were quickly catching up with some last minute adjustments prior to taking to the track.

Another new face in the twos was Peter Henderson (Lanark), who has switched from the stock rod formula and he was joined by Adam Blacklock (Forth) who was having his second outing.

Stevie Forster (Carluke) was back with his new chassis which was going quicker at each outing as the team made minor adjustments to the set-up.

Holly Glen (Inchture) had a good practice session and will be looking forward to the season getting underway whilst Emma Mellis (Edinburgh) had alterations to the back end of her car before the session began.

Barry Glen (Inchture) had his saloon repanelled and running well whilst Ryan Muirhead (Perth) had decided to look at his car on Friday, it had sat on the trailer over the winter, and when the car ran decided he was going to practice. The car ran well which augers well.

Brothers Scott and Keith Mitchell (Ellon) made the most of the time they could get on the track before setting off on the 3 hour journey home.

Amongst the stock rods were Craig Tosh (Glenalmond) and Chris Davidson (Perth) with Tosh having a spot of minor teething troubles with his new Citroen C2. Both were reasonably quick but on very wet conditions it was hard to judge, There was a good turn out of minis for their session with not that much difference in speed between Euan Millar (Heck) and Steven Burgoyne (Airth). Both will be the drivers that the others have to catch and it may not be that easy to do! Charlie Folan (Perth) looked impressive and if he can maintain this form then he will be moving up to the red grade quickly.

Bryan Lindsay (Forfar) went well as did newcomers Teri Linden (Airdrie) and Kier Millar (Heck).

This Sunday it could be a busy afternoon with the lightning, hot and stock rods having their session along with the prostox with the session starting at 1.00pm.

The formula II season gets going this weekend with a World Championship qualifying round taking place at King’s Lynn on Saturday afternoon, whilst on Sunday the drivers can choose between Skegness and Stoke. The saloon drivers will also be at King’s Lynn on Saturday for the Clive Grief Memorial Trophy but have no meeting on the Sunday.
