KELTY Hearts dropped two important East Super League points on Saturday while Hill of Beath Hawthorn lost to strugglers Fauldhouse United on the road in the only two games to beat Friday’s downpour.

The results did nothing for the aspirations of the two local clubs, although Kelty still lead the table.

Kelty Hearts 0, Penicuik Athletic 0.

A VERY disappointing result for Hearts but Penicuik came to Kelty with a plan and stuck to it in a very disciplined manner.

Athletic have been getting some creditable results this term and lie in fifth spot in the Super League table and they have conceded only eight goals away from home.

They certainly opened the game cautiously and worked hard to deny Kelty space and in the opening quarter of the game there were few clear cut chances.

Sean Grady and Brian Ritchie threatened for Hearts but at the other end Kyle Allison had to make a couple of decent saves and then Penicuik hit the bar.

Home player/manager Thomas Courts was urging his men on and they were creating the odd half chance but there were no goals at the break.

The second-half took on a similar pattern, with Hearts having the bulk of possession without breaking through but Penicuik were dangerous on the break and they did threaten a few times.

On the hour mark a Ritchie drive from over 25 yards came back off the bar and then top scorer Stuart Cargill saw his shot blocked after good work by Grady.

New signings from Berwick Rangers, Paul Currie and Scott Dalziel, were sent on from the bench to try and get the winner and Dalziel went close as did Neil McCabe, but the goal just would not come.

Hearts are now four points clear of Newtongrange Star with two games more played.

Fauldhouse United 2, Hill of Beath Hawthorn 1.

THIS was a very poor result for Haws who were all over their opponents in West Lothian.

Some indifferent defending and a series of misses saw the hosts gain an unlikely three points and move to within one of the Haws.

The early stages of the game saw Hill of Beath put Fauldhouse under pressure but the home defence worked hard to deny the visitors space.

However, the good probing work by the Haws midfield saw chances start to appear and Calum Adamson got through only to see the home ‘keeper made a good save and then Shaun Leishman hit the bar.

United forced one good save from Stuart Hall but Kevin Connor then had a great chance for the visitors but could not convert.

No goals at the break but within a few minutes of the second period United grabbed the lead and started to make life doubly difficult for Hill of Beath, but Adamson came close to an equaliser before Adam Moffat slotted home the leveller It was all Haws for a spell and Greg Smith twice missed from ideal positions and Adamson saw the ‘keeper make a fine save.

Inspired by still being level Fauldhouse went up the park and managed to grab a second goal and this left Haws 15 minutes to save the game.

It was all out attack from the visitors and Adamson got clear of the home defence but could not score and there were other chances around the United goal but an equaliser would not come.

Haws boss Jock Finlayson could not believe his side left Fauldhouse with nothing, “We had so many chances throughout the 90 minutes.

“The two goals conceded were not good from our point of view but the chances were there to win the game with plenty to spare, but we just could not put the ball in the net.

“It was very unsastifactory and we will have to get our finishing sorted out before Armadale come to Keir’s Park this weekend.” Saturday’s fixtures: McBookie.com East Super League, Hill of Beath Hawthorn v Armadale Thistle, Lochee United v Kelty Hearts.
