WITH the promoters busy sorting out fixtures for the 2015 stock car season it looks as if there is going to be plenty of big meetings to look forward to at the Cowdenbeath Racewall.

The banger World Cup is scheduled for its usual April date and again we could expect to see another good turn out of cars - mostly from south of the border.

The bangers World Cup has brought some intriguing cars for the meeting with James Dillon (Mayfield) usually bringing out something special. Last year he appeared with a Lincoln Town Car Limo, probably one of the longest seen, and he struggled to get the car around the bends. He didn’t last too long when the race started before being caught going down the main straight but somehow he managed to wreck a few other cars in the process.

The banger World Cup tends to attract some of the biggest names and teams in the sport and for many years the drivers from Team Stinkbridge proved to be the ones to watch. The Suicide Squad came up one year and were wiped out but boy did the fans love every minute of it!

There was a spell when the Davies brothers, Shane and Andy (Gravesend), dominated but whilst Shane may be up for the meeting he will now be in his saloon!

Wilf and Rob Speak (Manchester) raced a few times but Rob is now in either his formula I or II whilst Wilf has appeared fairly often over the last few years.

Matty Threlkeld (Carlisle) and Joe Morgan (Warton) are regular attenders to the World Cup with Matty racing a Chrysler Imperial at last year’s event.

Jason Jackson (Norwich) and Jack Forster (Birmingham) have won the title over the past couple of years and they will probably be amongst those who will be in action this year. The Mayfield Mob will again be led by Dillon but what car he will bring this year he won’t be telling!

There is normally a good turn out of drivers from Crimond with John Taylor (Crimond), Colin, John and Sean Riddell (Cornhill) and Richard and Andrew Swallow (Fraserburgh), Mark Morrison (Fraserburgh) and Mark Delgarno (Brechin).

Hopefully we can beat the 50 cars that appeared last year but what is obvious is there will only be a handful of drivers running at the end of the race!

The formula II drivers have a speedweekend at the end of April where they have a World Championship qualifying round then a Scottish Championship to contest.

With the introduction of the Zetek engine into this formula it brings the cost of the engines down considerably and the drivers have being heading back to the scrap yards to pick up these engines for not very much outlay.

The engines are proving to be very competitive to the full race pinto without any modifications which is certainly good news and hopefully this will attract quite a few drivers to this exciting category of racing. The formula II World Final is at Hednesford in 2015 with the semi-finals being held at Skegness – both tarmac tracks this year!

With the formula IIs having a double header and the Scottish being a solus meeting we could well see a good turn out of drivers from south of the border as they look to score as many points as possible to gain a good semi-final slot and coupled to the home drivers, it will certainly be a meeting to look forward to.

The Scottish Championship last year was staged at Crimond where Gordon Moodie (Windygates) maintained his stranglehold on this title where he made it three wins in succession!

If he wants to make it four then he is going to have to be at his best as I am sure that the likes of World Champion George MacMillan Jnr (Stepps), Chris Burgoyne (Airth), Craig Wallace (Tranent) and Robbie Dawson (Aberdeen) will all be keen to halt his run.

Mind you all the home drivers have their eyes set on winning the Scottish Championship and more than a few from south of the border would be keen to get their hands on the title.

It looks as if there will be a few new faces in the formula IIs this year with ex-ministocker Colin Thomson (Carluke) already having a new chassis at his disposal and don’t be surprised to see him chase the Novice of the Year title.

The Blacklock brothers from Forth are both bringing out cars this year as is Simon Cranson (Cowdenbeath) who is building his own chassis at present.

Cranson had a run in the Gregor Turner (Dunfermline) chassis towards the end of the season and has been bitten by the bug.

There was a stock car market at the Racewall on Sunday and whilst the weather was pretty dreich early on there was a fair bit of trading going on with drivers having a look to see just what was on offer.
