MARGARET Heenan and Emma Drysdale contested the women’s Championship at Cowdenbeath Bowling Club with both women already having won a singles trophy this year. The game was fairly even early on with Emma throwing a lot of short bowls and Margaret often struggling to find a line.

The scores were level at 6, 7 and 11, with both women taking the lead from time to time. Emma started playing more consistently, throwing more bowls in the head, but Margaret was always in the area. Emma went 19-14 ahead. Margaret pulled it back to 19-17 and threw her first bowl about 9” away. Emma beat that with her first bowl. Margaret ran past with her next two then knocked Emma’s short bowl in to win the game.

This is Emma’s second win in the Championship and a fine return to bowls after taking some time off.

Last Wednesday, at Cowdenbeath Bowling Club, Archie Muir and George Beattie played the final of the Dewar Trophy for over 55’s. This was the last men’s single’s competition of the season at Cowdenbeath and both players traded shots early on and it was clear that George’s tighter line bowls were more suited to the rink than Archie’s. Archie really had to concentrate to find a line and consequently his weight suffered. He played a few good saving bowls and it was tight at 11-10. George played the far better length bowls of the two and pulled away. At 18-12 up, George played off Archie’s shot bowl and moved the jack behind three short bowls to be lying two shots. Archie’s last bowl was good weight but tight and turned one of George’s bowl up for the game. This meant that the six singles trophies were won by different men.
