THE Central Fife Flyer came up in the East Super League on Saturday with all three sides winning and Kelty Hearts strengthening their position at the top of the table.

And in the East Premier Dundonald Bluebell hit the top spot with a fine win over title favourites Arniston Rangers.

Kelty Hearts 6, Lochee United 1.

A THUMPING win for Hearts who made it six victories on the trot in the Super League, their best ever start to a campaign.

And striker Stuart Cargill kept his goal scoring run going by hitting four, taking his league tally to an amazing 14 in six games.

And it did not take long for the striker to open his own and the team’s account with a neat finish and soon after he struck again.

Lochee have had a tough start to the league season and were finding the slick moving Kelty side hard to deal with and they seldom threatened.

The visitors worked hard at trying to contain Hearts though, but before the break Cargill struck again to complete his hat-trick.

Shortly before the interval Hearts were reduced to ten with the sending off of Craig O’Reilly after a midfield challenge.

However, it did little to effect the Hearts challenge and Cargill grabbed his fourth and Kelty’s fourth with another neat piece of finishing, although United struck back to reduce the deficit.

For a spell Lochee enjoyed a better spell but substitute Shaun Greig made it 5-1 and before the end Stevie Manson added number six.

Hearts manager Thomas Courts was delighted with the way his side opened up the Lochee defence, “We played really well and carved out some tremendous chances and it was great to see Stuart Cargill keeping on banging them in.

“It keeps us four points clear at the top and I could not have asked any more from the squad, but we will have to be at our best when we travel to play Broxburn on the astro turf this weekend.” Carnoustie Panmure 0, Hill of Beath Hawthorn 4.

A COMPREHENSIVE win for Haws made even better when it is realised they achieved it despite being reduced to ten men early in the game.

Hill of Beath made a great start to the game and in 20 minutes Ben Anthony fired them ahead from close in, but they were shocked when Adam Moffat was handed a red card for what was deemed an over zealous challenge.

Haws had to adapt but they fairly comfortably held out until the break and in the second period the gallant ten took over.

In 55 minutes they went 2-0 ahead when Greg Smith fired in a free-kick which beat the home ‘keeper then soon after Michael Gemmell sent Calum Adamson clear wide, and his cross converted by Anthony.

The home team were never in the game and it seemed only a matter of time until the fourth arrived.

With five minutes remaining Adamson was fouled in the box and got up to net the spot-kick and complete a good job for the Haws.

Manager Jock Finlayson was very pleased with the way his team tackled being a man short for so long in the game, “Adam’s tackle did not seem to be that bad but the referee produced the red and it left us facing 65 minutes a man short.

“But the lads responded superbly and it was a very good win away from home.” Ballingry Rovers 1, Penicuik Athletic 0.

THIS was a very important win for Rovers and took them into the top half of the Super League table.

Penicuik have made a good start to the campaign and they were a team which did not allow Ballingry a lot of space.

However, the Ore Parkers made the early running and Greg Meikle and Lee Bryce both came close to opening the scoring.

The visitors were kept in check by the home defence and it looked for long spells like the first period would end goalless.

Then the breakthrough came when Bryce’s cross-cum-shot fell perfectly for evergreen player/assistant boss Kevin Fotheringham, who forced the ball over the line.

The second-half saw Rovers have the bulk of possession but chances were few although Sam Bratchie and Bryce might have stretched the lead.

But with 20 minutes left any hopes Penicuik had of salvaging anything evaporated when a bad foul on Meikle saw a visiting player red carded.

The closest they came to a goal was when a good move saw Chris Hughes put in a fine block to ensure the three points were staying at Ore Park.

Rovers boss Lee Dair was very pleased with the performance, “We knew how Penicuik would play and went about creating some very good chances.

“But when the goal came it was tremendous to see Kevin make the run to get on the end of Lee Bryce’s ball into the box and it turned out to be the key moment in the match.” Dundonald Bluebell 3, Arniston Rangers 1.

A SUPERB performance from Bluebell who lead the Premier Division on goal difference.

It was an exciting match for the neutral which both sides producing some good attacking football but a strong closing spell gave the Moorsiders the verdict.

The opening phase of the game saw the teams carve out openings without scoring, then midway through the first period Rangers had to change their ‘keeper after he was injured in a collision with two Bluebell attackers.

Bluebell continued to create a number of good chances and in a nice move Calum Young fed Craig Morrison who fired a neat shot into the corner of the net.

That was the way it stood at the break but in 47 minutes Arniston were awarded a penalty when a forward went down in the box after being challenged by home ’keeper James Lennox and the spot-kick was converted.

For a spell Arniston dominated possession but Bluebell survived and they went on to win the points with a good finale.

In 82 minutes, following a corner, Jordan Laird forced the ball home and then two minutes from time Young stuck the ball away after another fine Bluebell move to complete a good day for the home side.

Whitburn 3, Lochgelly Albert 1.

THIS was always going to be a tough examination for Albert in the South Divison but they started the game well and created some good openings.

They took the lead when Connor Schiavone beat his marker and fired a low shot in off a post. Then there were two chances for Lochgelly to double their lead through Brett McGuire, firstly him being blocked close in by a brave challenge, and then he hit the side net.

Whitburn hit wood but Michael Perrie came close to extending the Albert lead on the interval whistle.

However, it was a different Whitburn who came out for the second-half and after Darren Seath had gone close for Lochgelly, the home side levelled the game on the hour.

The momentum swung in the hosts’ favour and they put Albert under pressure and they went ahead six minutes later.

A third goal put Whitburn in charge but in the closing minutes both Seath and and Schiavone went so close to grabbing another for the visitors.

Crossgates Primrose 2, Livingston United 1.

ANOTHER fine result for Primrose and it ensured that they got their first win in the South Division.

However, the game was marred by a serious injury to Livi player Daniel Forbes who needed treatment at Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy, after being injured just before the interval.

Livi had some good spells in the first period and took the lead, but there were signs from Primrose that they could get back into the game.

They opened the second-half well and John Duffy equalised in the 48th minute and from then on the hosts were the likelier side to get the winner.

And it came when Steven Stark finished clinically to ensure a first league win for Crossgates.

Dundee Downfield 7, Lochore Welfare 1.

THIS North Division game was over before the break as Downfield went goal crazy against Lochore.

After their good East of Scotland Cup win last weekend, Welfare went to Tayside with some confidence but very early in the game their old defensive frailties began to show.

Downfield are one of the sides fancied to do well this season in this division and they attacked strongly and took advantage of a couple of errors to take a grip of the game and score twice in the opening ten minutes. Lochore had a couple of good chances but failed to hit the target and Downfield doubled their tally as the visiting defence struggled.

By the interval it was 6-0 and things looked really black for the Crosshill team, but in the second period they made a better fist of it.

Downfield had a man sent-off and this saw Lochore have more openings and they pulled one back through a fine Calum Deas finish.

They could have had others as the home ‘keeper pulled off some fine saves but the Dundee side hit another to restore their six goal advantage. Welfare manager Peter Hutton was bitterly disappointed by his side’s defending in the first-half, “Downfield took full advantage of some poor work by us at the back and put the game out of sight.

“The second-half was so much better with us having several excellent chances, but the damage had been done in the opening stages of the game.” SATURDAY’S fixtures: McBookie.com East Super League, Broxburn Athletic v Kelty Hearts, Hill of Beath Hawthorn v Newtongrange Star, Camelon v Ballingry Rovers.
