THE drizzle at the start of Saturday night’s stock car meeting, at the Cowdenbeath Racewall, made life a bit difficult for the drivers but once it stopped there was a semblance of a racing line although there was never a dry one!

Steven Ironside grabbed the headlines in his saloon but not in the way that he wanted to.

In one of the heats he was sent crashing into the pit bend wall and rolled spectacularly with the car ending on all four wheels but looking very sorry for itself!

There was a three car shunt in the formula IIs which saw Stevie Forster, Paul Reid and Liam Rennie all in a heap on the turnstile bend whilst a couple of laps later Alan Edmiston hit the wall on the main straight ripping off a back wheel in the process.

With Gordon Moodie and Chris Burgoyne missing, their places were taken by Ryan Morgan and Steve Smith whilst Simon Cranson was making his debut.

The Fife drivers in action were Paul Reid (Cowdenbeath), Simon Cranson (Thornton) and Kieran Howie (Dunfermline).

The opening heat ended with Stevie Forster running away with it and leading home Reid and Daniel Scrimgeour. In heat two Alan Edmiston went on to a comfortable win and he led home Robbie Dawson and Craig Wallace with Reid in tenth place.

Scrimgeour was the first to show when the final started with Howie in close order whilst Smith was leading the chase after them. However, when Forster, Reid and Rennie crashed on the top bend out came the yellow flags suspending the race. A couple of laps after the restart the race was stopped again after Edmiston crashed heavily collecting Scrimgeour as he did so.

John Hogg was the new leader and whilst he led for a couple of laps he then lost out to Dawson, and then John Fortune a lap later. Wallace was making progress and he caught Hogg to move into third. Dawson was slowly pulling away and went on to win the Chapman Trophy but Fortune dropped to fourth after Wallace sent him wide, whilst Hogg also moved ahead with Howie in sixth and Cranson in tenth place.

Wallace went on to win the Grand National leading home Howie and Rennie with Reid in seventh and Dawson coming through to ninth place from his lap handicap.

There were a few saloon drivers missing, no doubt with their eyes on the forthcoming World Championship. However, Steven Ironside and Keith Mitchell were down from Crimond but unfortunately Ironside’s time on the track didn’t last too long. The Kingdom drivers in action were Ross Watters (Leven) and Alex Cunningham (Leven).

Stuart Shevill Jnr, racing his own car, went through to win the opening heat from Graeme Shevill and Willie Mitchell whilst Ironside was given a bit of a help going into the pit bend and ended up rolling. In heat two K. Mitchell led for a considerable time but lost out to S. Shevill Jnr on the penultimate lap and W. Mitchell on the last but held on to claim third with Watters in sixth and Cunningham in tenth place.

K. Mitchell led the final until the half distance and then lost out to S. Shevill Jnr who then strolled away to make it a hat-trick of wins and he was followed to the line by Neil McLaughlin and W. Mitchell with Watters in fifth and Cunningham tenth.

David Hughes was making his lightning rod debut whilst the Fife drivers in action were Sean Farrell (Glenrothes) and Gordon Brown (Leven).

Alex Rogan scored an easy win in the first heat leading home Gary Nicholls and Dougie Kidd with Farrell in seventh and Brown in ninth place. Nicholls then won heat two and he led home Tam Ross, Hughes and Farrell with Brown fifth.

In the final Nicholls went on to win from Ross with Hughes in third place and Farrell in fifth place.

There weren’t too many minis around but it was to be the last for Colin Thomson who had reached retiring age.

Craig Murray went on to win the opening heat from Thomson and Euan Millar. Steven Burgoyne then won heat two and he led home Murray and Millar. Burgoyne then won the final from Thomson and Millar. Burgoyne then chalked up a hat trick of wins when he won the Allcomers where he again led home Thomson and Millar.

This Saturday we have a caravan banger race and to date there are 13 drivers booked in and boy will there be destruction. It’s a race not to be missed. Backing them up are the stock rods, prostox and micro f2s. The meeting starts at 6.00pm.
