KELTY Hearts made it three East Super League wins in a row with a fine away win at Penicuik on Saturday.

Meanwhile in the East Premier Dundonald Bluebell’s good start to the season continued at Bathgate where they hit six.

Elsewhere there were draws for Hill of Beath Hawthorn and Lochgelly Albert and defeats for Ballingry Rovers, Lochore Welfare and Crossgates Primrose, who leaked eight goals.

Penicuik Athletic 1, Kelty Hearts 4.

HEARTS held on to their top of the table spot with this impressive win in the Lothians.

Holiday commitments saw the visitors minus three regulars but they started the game well and had chances against a lively Penicuik side.

Brian Ritchie’s assist gave Hearts the lead when he anticipated a short pass-back and fed stuart Cargill who netted but Penicuik fought back and levelled after a good move saw Kyle Allison given no chance.

Kelty reacted perfectly and Cargill laid the ball off to Scott Lawrie who fired a fierce shot past the ‘keeper.

Then before the break they got a cushion when, from a corner, Roger Duffin set up Cargill who volleyed the ball into the net.

The second-half saw both sides have chances but the key moment came when Lawrie and Cargill combined to provide the chance for Shaun Greig to slip home number four.

Said Hearts boss Thomas Courts (pictured), “It was a difficult game but we took our chances and maintained the 100 per cent record “This Saturday sees us matched with Sauchie, who are a hard team to beat and in many ways it is a pivotal game for us.” Hill of Beath Hawthorn 3, Fauldhouse United 3.

HAWS came back three times from going behind to claim a Super League point at Keir’s Park.

The home side had a goal chalked-off early on when Lyle Shaw netted but was adjudged to be off-side and then a penalty decision have Fauldhouse the chance to go ahead.

But soon after Michael Gemmell was pulled down in the box and Calum Adamson sunk the spot kick to square things but shortly before the break United retook the lead.

The second-half saw Haws have a lot of the ball and Greg Smith slotted the equaliser after a goalmouth scramble, but Fauldhouse were not for giving up and another penalty gave them the opportunity to go 3-2 up.

Hill of Beath upped the tempo in the closing minutes and with ten to go Kevin Byle headed the equaliser.

Haws boss Jock Finlayson felt the strong wind had ruined the game, “It was very difficult for the players in these conditions and to be honest we did not do enough to win.” Armadale Thistle 3, Ballingry Rovers 1.

ON paper this game looked to give Rovers a chance to build on their fine super League win over Broxburn but they failed to beat a home team who played the second-half with ten men.

Thistle started the game brightly and took the lead in ten minutes and this took the steam out of the Ballingry challenge.

The visitors saw plenty of the ball but were unable to create a lot of chances but on the stroke of half-time they were level.

A Chris Hughes header was handled on the line and after the defender was sent off Tom Graham levelled the match from the spot.

The second-half saw Ballingry look to take the game to Armadale but they managed to defend solidly and had a couple of chances on the break.

Graham twice went close for Rovers but in 75 minutes Thistle hit a second and the pressure was on the visitors to hit back.

They tried hard but lacked a cutting edge and Thistle added a third five minutes from time to make it a bad day for Rovers.

Manager Lee Dair was very disappointed at time up, “It was a very indifferent performance with us failing to make the extra man count. We will have to get back on the rails quickly with Bonnyrigg due at Ore Park this week.” Bathgate Thistle 1, Dundonald Bluebell 6.

A TREMENDOUs performance from Bluebell who lead the East Premier Division after three games.

Thistle are not the team they were but still have some very good players in their ranks and the first quarter of an hour was even.

However, in 20 minutes Jamie Gilfillan was fouled in the box and got up to convert the penalty kick and it settled the visitors. They dominated the midfield and it was no surprise when they grabbed a second five minutes from the break through Darren Falconer. Seven minutes after the break the points were safe when Gilfillan turned the ball home but credit to Bathgate they pulled one back soon after.

But there was to be no recovery with a hand ball incident giving Bluebell another penalty which Gilfillan stuck away to complete his hat-trick, and in 77 minutes Dundonald went nap through a Lewis Elder header.

With the clock running down Thistle were struggling and Craig Morrison added a sixth.

Moorside committee man Drew Davidson was delighted with the performance, “It was a fine show, especially with a few lads out, but we have to keep it going when Jeanfield visit us this weekend.” Lochgelly Albert 1, West Calder United 1 THIS South Division game was dominated by the gale force wind at Gardiner’s Park and turned it into literally a game of two halfs.

The Albert took a deserved lead in 20 minutes when Darren Seath headed in a well flighted cross.

The visitors received the first of their two penalties in the 31st minute, which was saved by Lee Wilson but the Berts couldn’t force their advantage and went in only 1-0 up.

The second half was West Calder’s with the wind at their back, leading to their second penalty on the 63rd minute, this time converted, to level the match.

Steven Brown was booked for his challenge, which ended up costing him with him picking up his second booking in the 79th minute for what seemed an innocuous tackle.

The final 10 minutes were the best in the match with both sides pushing for a winner but neither able to break the deadlock but the result made it three straight draws for the hosts.

Haddington Athletic 8, Crossgates Primrose 0.

SOUTH Division leaders Haddington carried too many guns for Primrose who were swamped in East Lothian.

Primrose, who had a man sent-off, found the home side a smooth moving unit and they grabbed the lead in ten minutes but Crossgates created a few half chances themselves.

They also defended quite well and the second goal did not come until the stroke of half-time.

Crossgates had to avoid losing an early goal in the second-half but in 50 minutes it was 3-0 and two minutes later came the fourth.

The flood gates had opened and the fifth came in 58 minutes with the sixth ten minutes later and two goals in the last ten minutes completed the rout.

Lochore Welfare 2, Kirrie Thistle 4.

THE Welfare paid for a host of missed chances in this North Division clash at Crosshill.

The wedding of one of the Lochore players saw five regulars missing and the team took time to settle.

And Kirrie took advantage to score two early goals through errors from the Welfare defence and four minutes from the break they were 3-0 down.

But back they came and a minute from the interval Kevin Goodwin reduced the deficit with a fine strike.

The second period saw Lochore dominate and Scott Renton thought he had pulled another one back when he turned the ball home but was given off-side.

Greg Renton got a second for Welfare and the home side struck wood three times through John Ford, Renton and Calum Deas, but as luck would have it Kirrie survived and grabbed number four on the break leaving Welfare boss Peter Hutton frustrated. “Yes we were a few short for this one and we gave away two bad goals, but we played some great stuff in the second-half and could have scored several goals,” he said.

“But we need to make less errors at both ends of the park and really need a commanding centre-half and a proven goalscorer.” Saturday’s fixtures, McBookie.com East Super League, Ballingry Rovers v Bonnyrigg Rose, Kelty Hearts v Sauchie, Linlithgow Rose v Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
