BOWHILL Rovers had a great season experiencing league and cup victories.

The club was reformed in 2001 when chairman Jim Hastie decided to get things moving and played their football in the Kingdom Caledonian League.

Since reforming the club had never won any silverware until this year, after a change in management which saw Mick Reilly take over as manager, with his assistant being Jim McGuinness.

The club lost in the League Cup Final in October, however, since that day they have not lost any games to any Fife teams, having only been beaten in the Scottish Cup, by the then cup holders in the last 16 (round 7).

Bowhill Rovers have went on to win the Kingdom Caledonian League; the Foster’s Fife Cup (beating Pittenweem 3-2 in the final); the Fence ‘n Deck Cup (beating local rivals Lumphinnans Utd in final); the Kingdom Challenge Cup (beating Kinross 5-2 in final); and the Scottish Brewers Cup (beating Leven Utd in final), indeed an impressive success list.

Their presentation night at Railway Tavern, Cardenden, last Saturday was a night to remember, when the prize winners were: Players’ Player of the Year - Mark McCormack; Manager’s Player of the Year - Willie Wright; Committee’s Player of the Year - Mark Buist; Sportsman of the Year - Martin Ritchie; Top Goalscorer - Jamie Gay, who scored a fantastic 36 goals in 39 games There were special awards made to chairman Jim Hastie, and physio Mark Gibson for their commitment to the club.

A special mention must go to Mark McCormack who has this year been capped at International level, playing for Scotland at the UEFA Regions Tournament in Slovenia. Mark was also voted by the league referees as Kingdom Caledonian League Player of the Year.

The club are also awarding a Testimonial game on 26th July to Steven Mellon who is retiring this year after spending the last 12 seasons playing for Bowhill Rovers.
