CONNOR Law says that he is ready to win “the fight of his life” on Saturday as he looks to secure Commonwealth Games qualification.

The Kelty boxer takes on Lochend Boxing Club fighter Lewis Benson in the welterweight division in a ‘box-off’ to determine who will represent Scotland in Glasgow at the 69kg weight.

The duo met last month at the Emirates Arena where Benson came out on top - the first time he has defeated Law - in the Boxing Scotland finals. The winner of the bout was due to determine who would fight at the Games but team selectors took into account Law’s record over the last year, which included winning the 2013 welterweight title and winning a gold medal at the prestigious Tammer tournament in Finland.

They will now step into the ring once more for a closed-doors bout in Glasgow which will decide their Commonwealth fate and Law, who has prepared for the fight by attending a two-week training camp with Team Scotland in Portugal, told Times Sport, “I’ve doubled up my preparation in Portugal for the last couple of weeks and I’m ready. It’s the biggest fight of my life and this time there won’t be any extra pressure with the crowd or the media there. Because I had all my friends there the last time, I didn’t want to let them down so I think that I tried too hard, but this time it will be strictly boxing. There is pressure as it’s the Commonwealth Games or nothing but going to Portugal has benefited me massively. I was training three times a day, had some good sparring out there and my fitness levels are up. I made mistakes in the last fight and after it I was straight back in the gym working on them. I went in with different tactics; I was trying to finish it when I could’ve boxed him like I normally would. If I can keep my composure then it should be a different result.” Law’s coach at Glenrothes Boxing Club, Steven McGuire, said, “I can’t argue with the fact there is a box-off and the selectors have been fair to us. I’m happy with the fact there are neutral judges and a neutral referee coming up from London but it’s in his own hands now. He’s not under as much pressure as he was the last time with the crowd and he seems to perform better when he’s not under as much pressure. But I’m very confident in him and we are raring to go.”
