THE wet weather of Friday and Saturday saw several junior fixtures postponed and the big game of the day was the Sauchie v Ballingry Rovers East Super League match and it ended in defeat for the Benarty side.

But in the South Division there were fine wins for Dundonald Bluebell and Lochgelly Albert.

Sauchie 4, Ballingry Rovers 0.

A SECOND-HALF collapse saw Rovers go down to one of their heaviest defeats of the season in this Super League game in Clackmannanshire.

In the first hour things went reasonably well for Ballingry but the last 30 minutes turned into a nightmare.

The opening 45 minutes saw Sauchie put Ballingry under a bit of pressure at times but the Ore Park defensive work was good and kept them out.

In an attacking sense there was much to give Rovers hope with Lee Bryce and Murray Carstairs going close and the latter hitting the woodwork.

But two goals in as many minutes changed all that. The first came in 62 minutes when the visiting defence was caught out and a second in 64 minutes put Rovers in trouble.

They worked hard at trying to get back in to the picture but without any luck and the third goal ten minutes from time killed the game. The fourth came in time added on.

Said Rovers boss Stevie Kay, “We competed well in the first hour but losing two goals in as many minutes was a blow we never recovered from.

“A bit more experience could have helped but the resources are not there at the moment. We will have to regroup and be ready for the Armadale game at home this week for it is a big, big, match for us.” Dundonald Bluebell 6, Harthill Royal 1.

BLUEBELL rekindled their hopes of clinching promotion to the Premier League with their first win in six outings over the South Division’s bottom side at Moorside.

There were late blows for Dundonald with strikers Stephen Bathgate and Craig Morrison out of action and in the first minute Harthill shocked them by taking the lead.

However, Bluebell did not take long to level things when Ian Lally fired home within 90 seconds and in 15 minutes the home side went ahead when Stuart Walton was pulled down in the box and Lee Duffy scored from the spot.

Five minutes later Derek Wallace turned a defender and stuck away number three and seven minutes from the interval Wallace converted after a fine Bluebell move.

Just before the break number five arrived when Walton sent over a fine cross and Calum Young’s back header went over the ‘keeper.

The second period saw Harthill start well and pose Dundonald a few problems but the home defence coped well and in 75 minutes Young scored his second of the afternoon after a fine six man move.

The result puts Bluebell in third place with four games left, two points behind Blackburn United with four games to play to their three.

Said Bluebell committee man Drew Davidson, “Our task is that we need to win our last four games and we will be promoted.

“We have three away from home so it will be a test but everyone is focused on the task.” Lochgelly Albert 4, Dunbar United 0.

AN excellent second-half performance gave Albert their first South Division win in some weeks.

Dunbar grabbed the lead in 12 minutes through an error by Lochgelly ‘keeper Colin Rushford, but the equaliser was not long in coming when a trialist striker send Michael Perrie clean through and and he finished expertly.

However, Dunbar kept asking questions of the Albert rearguard and in 27 minutes another piece of ordinary work at the back gave United the chance to regain the lead.

Two minutes from the break Albert almost levelled when Andy Barratt’s raking free-kick hit the bar.

The second-half saw Lochgelly dominate and Stevie Brown went close before Darren Seath levelled in 70 minutes from a Brown cut-back.

Albert turned up the pressure and in 82 minutes went ahead for the first time when Paul Duncan set up Seath who expertly netted and then in the second minute of time added on a Perrie pass gave Trialist the chance to add number four.

The result keeps Albert in ninth spot in the table.

Forfar West End 4, Lochore Welfare 1.

THIS North Division game in Angus saw West End overpower Welfare in midfield and reap the rewards.

Lochore started the game slowly and went behind in 15 minutes when an 18 yard strike found the bottom corner of the net.

However, Welfare came into the game and Michael Wallace saw his shot saved before Brett McGuire’s header also brought out the best in the West End ‘keeper.

The equaliser came when Kevin Goodwin got to a cross first and his headflick beat the ‘keeper, but two minutes from the break a bit of slackness by Lochore allowed Forfar to regain the lead.

Lochore started the second-half well and David Byrne shot over from a good position before he saw the ‘keeper make a fine save but disaster struck for the visitors when they had a corner, and the ball was cleared and West End went up the park to make it 3-1.

This took the determination out of Welfare and a late fourth made it a bad day for them.

Manager John Wylie felt his side were simply outplayed, “We lost three midfielders through injury and having to play two full-backs in that area saw them overrun us at times.

“Yet despite all their possession they only created five or six chances and they took four of them and we had several good openings at the other end.” Welfare are in ninth spot in the table with 31 points from 22 games and their target is to make mid-table.
