PRIDE of place on the local junior scene on Saturday went to Hill of Beath Hawthorn who made the fifth round of the Scottish Emirates Junior Cup with a pulsating performance against powerful Arthurlie.

The Haws won their fourth round tie with plenty to spare and along with Dundonald Bluebell, Lochore Welfare and Crossgates Primrose had plenty to celebrate while Ballingry Rovers took a point from their East Premier League game.

Hill of Beath Hawthorn 4, Arthurlie 1.

KEIR'S Park was the place to be on Saturday when a crowd of 500 packed in to see Haws give Arthurlie a bit of a pasting in this Emirates fourth round tie.

Yet at half-time the home support would have been forgiven for thinking that this was not going to be their day.

The visitors started the game positively and posed a lot of problems for the home side from both open play and set pieces.

Hill of Beath had to defend well but there was nothing they could do to stop Arthurlie taking the lead when a powerful header from a corner hit the net.

The visitors had a couple of other chances before the break but the second-half was a totally different story.

Hill of Beath attacked strongly from the re-start and on the hour they were level when Stephen Bathgate was pulled down in the box and got up to convert the spot-kick.

This gave the hosts the momentum and they swarmed all over the visitors and in 65 minutes Barry Smith's 25 yarder gave the 'keeper no chance.

It was all Haws and when Bathgate's shot hit a defender and flew up in the air there was Kevin Pyle to race in and head into the net to make it 3-1.

There was little Arthurlie could do to stop Haws and Stuart Haddow went close before Michael Stewart was hauled down in the box and Bathgate fired home from the spot to tie the match up with 15 minutes left.

Said happy Haws boss Jock Finlayson, "We did not play particularly well in the first-half and could not really argue about being behind.

"However, in the second period we played some great football and completely dominated and deserve to be in the fifth round for the first time in seven years where we are at home to Shotts Bon Accord this Saturday."

Kelty Hearts 0, Glenrothes 3.

AFTER their great win at Boness last week this East Super League defeat at Central Park was a real let down for Kelty Hearts.

Yet Hearts started the game full of confidence and they pushed Glens back and should have scored early on.

Glenrothes defended in depth and twice Ian Mauchlen went clean through but could not beat the 'keeper.

Glenrothes kept their cool and took the lead in 40 minutes against the run of play and the goal instilled confidence into the visitors.

In the second period they were well in charge as Kelty completely fell out of the game and when they grabbed a second goal in 75 minutes things were looking bleak for the home team. There was little they could offer and a third on time made it a bad day for Hearts.

Ballingry Rovers 0, Penicuik Athletic 0.

THIS East Premier League match saw very little good football and neither side really deserved to win.

The first period saw plenty of effort but little in the way of creative play and neither defence was really tested.

Indeed, the goalkeepers had little to do and there was little change in the second-half as the back lines continued to have a firm grip of the game.

Penicuik did have a decent chance midway through the period but Rovers survived and with almost the last kick Craig Smart missed from a great position.

Lochore Welfare 2, Lochgelly Albert 1.

LOCHORE managed to hold on to win this Central League derby match but they should have been out of sight by the break.

Welfare started the better side and got their noses in front after three minutes when John Ferguson capitalised on some poor Lochgelly defending.

Fifteen minutes later they were two down when Albert's Liam Munro gave away a foul on the edge of his own box and Brian Donnelly fired the set piece home.

On the half hour Greg Sinclair hit the Albert bar and then repeated the dose just before the interval before Paul Duncan missed an easy chance for Lochore.

Lochgelly came out a much improved side after the break and Greg Birse went close for the visiting side but in 70 minutes they got back into the game when Ross Kinnell struck.

Albert kept battling away and the Welfare had to defend well to take the points.

Dundonald Bluebell 8, Luncarty 0.

THIS game was switched to Moorside from Perthshire due to overnight frost and Dundonald took advantage to collect three Central League points.

The bottom of the table Luncarty side started well enough but when Martyn Thomson scored the opener in ten minutes the young visitors were in trouble.

However, they defended well and the second did not come until the 42nd minute when Thomson struck again and a minute later Derek Wallace made the break score 3-0.

The Luncarty goalkeeper produced some great saves in the second-half and the woodwork was struck four times but there was nothing the last line could do to stop Wayne Wright making it 4-0 in 50 minutes and Ross McIlvene hit number five shortly after.

Substitute Robert Hodge got the sixth and then Ray (Rambo) Morgan came off the subs bench to hit two goals in the closing 15 minutes to make the final tally eight.

Crossgates Prim 2, Scone Thistle 1.

AN impressive second-half performance gave Crossgates Primrose their second Central League win on the trot.

The first period was a pretty even affair with both teams creating openings and first blood went to Primrose when Stewart McFarlane fired home the opener.

Scone kept their shape and probing away and they levelled before the break with a well taken goal.

The second period saw Crossgates start to dominate possession but still Scone kept them out with some deft defending.

However, with just 15 minutes left the home side got the all important winner through Steven McIntosh.
