AN eventful stock car season ends at the GMP Cowdenbeath Racewall with the usual exciting finale – the 2 Litre National Saloon UK Superbowl on the Saturday night and the Gordon Barclay Memorial on Sunday afternoon, writes Racewall reporter Jim Turner.

Saturday night’s meeting carries World Ranking points so it is important to those drivers who are chasing honours to attend and score as heavily as possible to enhance their starting position at the 2018 World Final.

Already the saloon drivers are booking in for this meeting and we can expect to see the present World Champion Daniel Parker leading the visitors challenge and he will be backed up by Shane Davies and Michael Allard all winners of major titles this year.

However, whilst not yet booked in we can expect to see Deane Mayes, Kieren Bradford and Daniel Petters in action.

The McIvor brothers Anthony and Kieran will head the challenge from Northern Ireland.

However, the Scottish drivers have come out on top in the last three UK Superbowl meetings which have been won by Ian McLaughlin, Paul Honeyman and Stuart Shevill Jnr.

McLaughlin is at this stage embroiled in a fierce fight with Ross Watters for the Racewall track point’s championship whilst the Scottish Champion Kyle Irvine and Luke Grief will be amongst the Scottish drivers looking to keep the titles at home.

On Saturday the formula II drivers will be contesting the Champion of Champions race as well as the James Clarke Cochrane Memorial Trophy.

Local driver Gregor Turner won the Champion of Champions race and will be hoping to retain it but with Gordon Moodie contesting the National Series and Chris Burgoyne injured then there could well be a new name on that trophy.

On Saturday the meeting will start at 5pm with the 1300saloons racing for their inaugural Superbowl whilst the microf2 drivers are also in action.

On Sunday it looks as if the action is going to be as hectic as ever as the saloon driver’s eye up the Gordon Barclay Memorial Trophy plus the Champion of Champions event.

Last year Barry Glen dominated when he won the Gordon Barclay Memorial and he will be more than determined to retain his trophy and wouldn’t mind getting his hands on the Champion of Champions Trophy. However, he will have to be at his best to keep the visiting drivers and the home stars at bay!

The ministox drivers will be racing in their Disco trophy final where Steven Burgoyne will be looking to fend his ministox career on a high. However, Sean Naismith and Declan Honeyman will have other ideas whilst Taylor Borthwick, Gary Paterson, Michael Mitchell and Danny Whyte cannot be discounted from coming out on top.

The 1300saloons drivers have their Open Scottish Championship at stake whilst the Classic hot rod drivers will race for their Cock of the North Trophy.

Making up the format will be the microf2 drivers but the way that they are racing just now they might just steal the show. Sunday’s action starts at 1.00pm
