AFTER a three week break the stock car drivers were itching to get back into the fray and at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on a dry Saturday night they certainly enjoyed themselves!

There were three rollovers, Aaron Fleming and Jon Taylor in the micro bangers whilst Todd Anderson managed to roll his microf2 but luckily stepped out of his car unhurt!

In the stock rods Russell Clacher made his return whilst David Kempton made his return after a heavy shunt a winning one!

Howeve,r in the stock rods there were two or three shunts and in the first one David Dignan (Leven) injured his shoulder whilst in heat two Dougie McLean and Jim Pitcaithly tangled on the back straight before they veered across the track and into the marker tyres.

After his formula II European success down at Northampton Chris Burgoyne was given a warm reception by the fans then celebrated by winning both the heats as well as the final.

Amongst those in action in the formula IIs was Mark Dews from Darlington whilst Colin Forbes was having a run in Daniel Scrimgeour shale car but whilst he was in the pits John Hogg struggled with a mechanical problem and didn’t make it onto the track until the final.

By then Robbie Dawson had encountered a problem and he had loaded up! Local drivers in action were Kieran Howie (Dunfermline), Paul and Craig Reid (Cowdenbeath), Simon Cranson (Cowdenbeath) and Gordon Moodie (Windygates).

Howie was the first to show when the final started and quickly pulled away from Pete Davidson although the latter soon had P. Reid in close order. Moodie had made a good start to the race and was running ahead of Craig Wallace and Burgoyne but within a matter of a couple of laps Burgoyne was ahead of both. Howie was comfortable in the lead but now had P. Reid in second but Burgoyne was quickly closing the gap although he head Moodie in close order. At the half distance Burgoyne was through into the lead and once ahead eased away before making it a hat trick of wins where he took the chequer flag clear of Moodie, Wallace and P. Reid with Cranson eighth and Howie ninth.

The stock rod drivers were racing in one of their Grand Prix series rounds with the final also for the Jane Burt Memorial Trophy. On the grid were visitors Justin Washer, Adam Daniels and Levi Robinson whilst the local drivers in action were James Matson (Glenrothes), David Dignan (Leven), Russell Clacher (Glenrothes), Jim Pitcaithly (Kirkcaldy), Chris Wallace (Buckhaven), Dougie McLean (Glenrothes), Stuart Wedderburn (Leven), Simon Laing (Springfield), James Lee Green (Cowdenbeath) and Michael Bethune (Kirkcaldy).

Kempton went straight into the lead when the final started and this time there was plenty of close racing without contact. Kempton led from start to finish to win the Jane Burt Memorial Trophy where he led home Paul Prentice, Rankine, Matson, Bethune and Green with Laing in eighth.

There was a healthy field of micro bangers drivers and there was no shortage of action which left many a car looking sorry for itself.

Fleming rolled not long after the first heat started and shortly afterwards Taylor did likewise but no sooner had the car landed on all four wheels than he drove away. Tam Melrose went on to win from Mark Delgarno and Mark Farquhar. Heat two was brought to a halt after a big pile up and once the track was cleared Melrose led only to be sent spinning by Brian Youngson who went on to win from Farquhar and Melrose.

The cars were lined up for their Supreme championship but no sooner had they done so than the race was stopped after Mackenzie Almond was sent crashing out of the race. The restart didn’t last long but when the track was cleared. Brian Youngson led the field away from Steve Allan but when the latter sent the leader spinning he found himself well clear before winning from Farquhar and Josh Heeps.

The cars immediately started their Destruction Derby and whilst they may have been termed micro bangers there were plenty of hard hits. Melrose was taken out as was Allan with Ryan Thompson surviving before going through to win.

This Saturday the BriSCA formula IIs are back in action alongside the 2 litre National saloons, Lightning rods and prostox with the meeting starting off at 6.00pm as usual. Look for Raymond Dick making his debut in the saloons having bought the ex Neil McLaughlin car earlier in the year.
