AFTER one of the most bizarre experiences in the club’s history, Cowdenbeath are preparing to get back into action this weekend when they head for the National Stadium.

While Cowden were idle the other sides played and it saw the Blues miss out on a chance to move nearer the mid table pack of clubs.

Cowden go to take on the Spiders with the boost that top scorer Jordyn Sheerin is fit after his shoulder injury.

But manager Gary Bollan and his squad were totally bemused by the match-off signs going up at Borough Briggs on Saturday.

Said the manager: “I must say I have never come across that before in all my time in football.

“When we got there and looked at the pitch it was very dry and areas bare and to be honest it looked like an old ash park. The referee called us in and told us that there was a problem with an area of the playing surface and was felt it was not safe.

“Yes we were there after a long journey but the safety of the players must come first.”

Mr Bollan was frustrated by the call-off and now has to focus on going to Hampden this Saturday and get points from Queen’s Park, who have made a good start to the season.

They have seven points from their four games so Cowden will have to be at their best to deal with the Spiders.

Added the boss: “What the postponement did do was let any wee niggles totally clear up and to have Jordyn fit is a real boost and the likes of Jason Talbot and David Cox have thrown off their problems and will be available for Saturday.

“Queen’s have made a pretty good start to the season so we will have to look to capture the form of the Berwick game to beat them.

“We showed in that match how we can put together a good all round performance and consistency has to be our aim.”

Cowden have also signed 18 year defender Robbie Deas on a four month long loan deal from Celtic and the defender will be in the squad for the Queen’s game.

He is happy at full-back or in the central defence area so will be a handy acquisition.
