COWDEN head for Elgin on Saturday without top scorer Jordyn Sheerin and midfield dynamo Kyle Miller.

Sheerin went off in the second-half against Berwick with a shoulder injury and investigations have shown ligament damage, so he looks like he will be on the sidelines for at least three weeks.

Miller got involved in an incident he shouldn’t have late on in the game and was given a straight red which means that manager Gary Bollan will have a couple of gaps to fill against the Highlanders, who have started the season well having seven points from three games.

Mr Bollan was delighted with the performance on Saturday: “We have not been playing badly at all but giving away daft goals and on Saturday we put together an all round good show by stopping the opposition creating chances and firing in some goals.

“Everyone was outstanding, we defended very soundly and built up play well in midfield then finished excellently and really should have scored more.

“The only negative moments were the injury to Jordyn Sheerin and Kyle Miller’s sending off.”

The manager added: “Jordyn suffered shoulder ligament damage in the incident in their box where he went down which means he will be out for around four weeks which is really disappointing when you consider that he has scored seven times already this season.

“However, we have the likes of Kris Renton and David Cox who can play in this role so we will have cover for Jordyn’s absence”.

Turning to the red card he went on: “Kyle did not need to get involved in the incident he got sent off for and I will have to speak with him about trying to stay out of these sort of situations.

“We need all our players available and we cannot afford to lose guys through suspension.”

The manager feels his side can build on that win when they go to Elgin this Saturday and said: “They are a tough team anywhere but especially up there, however, we have been playing well and if we repeat Saturday’s form we can get a result.”

Pat Scullion, who scored his first goal against Berwick since his return to the club in the summer, agrees: “It was a really good team performance and we scored some excellent goals.

“I was getting a bit of stick from the Berwick fans as I played for them last season, so to score was very sweet. We need more of that form in the games coming up.”

Sheerin and Miller will be out but defender Jason Talbot could well be back in action as will Jamie Pyper.

Mr Bollan confirmed on Thursday that veteran defender Bryan Gilfillan is leaving the club.

The manager said: "Bryan stays in Annan and it is a long way to travel for training and games if he is unsure about getting a game.

"There are a number of options for central defence so we have mutally agreed to allow Bryan to leave."

The manager has skipper David Marsh, Pat Scullion and Jamie Pyper competing for two spots.
