Cowdenbeath 4, Berwick Rangers 0.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-314

COWDENBEATH were big winners over a poor Berwick side at Central Park on Saturday.

The Blues hit four but they could have had more as they created a host of quality chances.

But the game had two downsides for the Fifers, with top scorer Jordyn Sheerin picking up a shoulder injury and midfielder Kyle Miller being red carded.

Over all the Cowden team were very much in charge of the game and once they went two up Berwick were chasing shadows.

Sheerin was a real problem for Berwick, until his injury, and along with Robbie Buchanan and Martin Scott, they had too much guile and finishing power for the Wee Rangers.

Blair Malcolm had another useful game in midfield while Pat Scullion and David Marsh were solid at the back.

Cowdenbeath moved forward well in the opening phase and the ball fell to Malcolm 20 yards out and his shot drifted just wide.

At the other end, in 27 minutes Scullion slipped, and Darren Lavery had a clear chance 16 yards out but he slashed his finish wide.

Cowden went ahead in 32 minutes when Fraser Mullen’s corner was perfect for SHEERIN to head past the ‘keeper.

Then three minutes later came number two. Buchanan created the chance by robbing a defender and his low ball was blasted goalwards by Brad Smith was deflected up in the air by Declan O’Kane and SCOTT headed past Sean Brennan.

The same Cowden attacker came close to a third goal two minutes from the break when he thumped a 12 yarder inches wide.

Rangers started the second period well and Daryl Healy latched on to pass and fired a 16 yarder just wide.

Then in 55 minutes a Mullen corner was met by Scullion and his header was blocked on the line by Wilson and two minutes later Malcolm got into the Berwick box and his ten yard shot came back off the right hand post.

With 24 minutes to go Cowden got a third. Scott’s flick was blocked and SCULLION blasted the ball past Brennan from 10 yards, then two minutes later came number four.

BUCHANAN robbed a Rangers defender and cleverly sent a left foot drive curling past the ‘keeper from 12 yards.

The action was not over though and Cowden’s Miller was red carded for aiming a punch at a Berwick player and then Rangers skipper Robert Wilson was sent off for a second yellow.
