BEATH High annual sports day was blessed with glorious sunshine and there were some superb performances.

There was a great atmosphere from the start with lots of support from spectators. The day started with the Hurdles with pupils flying over them in impressive times.

The Primary School Relays then followed with Cowdenbeath winning the Girls relay, and Crossgates the Boys relay. The two winning teams were presented with a new trophy which was sponsored by Cowdenbeath Civic Week Committee.

The 100m then followed, with Jay Watson (S1) breaking the school record with a sprint of 13.00 seconds.

The last individual event was the 800m race and some of the races were particularly close, coming down to the final sprint at the end.

The day finished off with the House Relays and all teams were eager to grab some points to help their house be named the Athletics House Champions.

Unfortunately, Woodside did not win any Relay Races, Kirkford won two and Stenhouse won the other four. However, in a very tight competition, Kirkford were awarded Athletics House Champions, which was largely helped by four of their athletes breaking the School record for their event.

The title of Sports Champion for each year group was then awarded to the male and female athletes who performed the best across the range of throwing, jumping and running events.

The S1 winners were; Tyler Munro and Jay Watson, the S2 winners; Lucy Kay and Matthew Grant and the S3 winners; Sammi Maxwell and Joshua Spence.
