AT Cowdenbeath Bowling Club Tuesday Hat night winners this week were Jean McKenzie, Eddie Hastie and Robert Thomson where 18 people participated for the Brian Miller Trophy, writes Jack High.

Davie Duff reminded everybody that he is currently in 'Pole' position.

The Babbs performance wasn't so good this week as Davie Leitch, Brian Simpson, Davie Duff and Robert Thomson lost 17-8 to Abbeyview at home.

John Allan, Dave Hunt, Rab Cant and Archie Muir lost a very tight game 12-10 at home to Terry Ward from Rosyth Civil Service.

Billy Allan, Roy Lawson, Bobby Reekie and Derek Easson won 19-9 at Inverkeithing.

Wednesday league did not go too well either. Eric McMillan, Derek Easson, Steven Hunter and Robert McFarlane won by six. Alan Moncur Peter Graham Mitch Drysdale and Lindsay Black were two down playing the last and Lindsay missed an opportunity to win the game when he missed the jack to ditch it for a four.

Niall McCal then turned two bowls up with his last to make a four to win by six so it all depended on the last game on the green. Billy Allan, Alan Leishman Robert Thomson and Andy Johnstone were two down playing the last but lost a shot. Lumphinnans won 5-2 on points and by three shots. Cowdenbeath are doing well but need to return to winning ways next Wednesday against Townhill.

Thursday at Markinch in the District semi-finals was a bit of a disaster for the Cowdenbeath teams who had played so well to get there.

Andy Johnstone lost in the singles against the local Markinch boy David Comrie 21-6. The triples of Peter Graham, Steven Hunter and Robert McFarlane were well beaten, being seven down playing the last end.

The senior fours of Lenny King, Jim Muir, Rab Cant and Archie Muir were well beaten too. The pair of Billy Allan and Mitch Drysdale played a strong pair from Abbeyview and were 14-14 after 14 ends. They were lying a very good single shot when Dylan Robertson nominated pushing a bowl a yard onto the shot and hit it perfectly. They eventually lost by a couple of shots.

On Saturday Dunfermline Northern were the visitors to Cowdenbeath and President Lindsay Black welcomed Jimmy Todd and four mixed rinks.

The scores were as follows with, Cowdenbeath skips first, Lindsay Black 14 Jimmy Todd 12, Peter Graham 13 Tom Haggan 8, Lenny King 9 Jim Gullighan 22, Mitch Drysdale 12 Jillian Gullighan 16. Cowdenbeath 47 Dunfermline Northern 56.

Despite losing the friendly (where the scores do not really count when you lose!) a great day was had by all. Jimmy Dow, who has been poorly for many months made a very welcome visit to the club.

On Sunday night Mary McKay and George Beattie played Townhill in the quarter-finals of the district Scottish mixed pairs at Thornton.

In an excellent game the Cowdenbeath pair came out on top being one up playing the last and scoring a single. Well done. Travelling spectators were treated to some very fine bowls from all four bowlers.

On Monday, again at Thornton, Mary McKay, Mary Hunter, Ina Young and Charlotte Sommerville beat Dunfermline 15-10 in the senior fours to progress to the District final at Kinghorn next week.

George Beattie, Davie McKay, Lindsay Black and Derek Easson took on Charlie Beveridge's rink from Inverkeithing in the Scottish senior fours. They started slowly being 6-2 down after 5 then got the tricky difference in pace to go 22-9 up after 13 ends, which prompted the Inverkeithing rink to concede and shake hands.

In the evening, only the pairs of Alan Moncur and Eric McMillan were competing. They were at Dunfermline against Dunfermline West End. In another nail biter, they ran out 14-13 winners to progress. Well done guys.
