COWDEN boss Billy Brown was absolutely delighted with the way his team tackled Edinburgh City and he is looking for his young Blue Brazil side to keep up the momentum at Montrose this weekend.

Cowdenbeath had to handle a lot of City pressure in the second-half but the back four kept a strong grip of the game and the midfield unit never gave up.

The manager said that after the problems of the past three seasons, which has seen the Blue Brazil finish in relegation slots in their divisions, he has been working to change the mentality of the players to get a ‘never say die approach’ to their game.

He said: “There has been an effect on the club over the past three seasons which has kind of seen them accept that things are going to be difficult.

“I have been trying to get over to them that if they stick together and have a never say did spirit it can see them overcome the most difficult of circumstances.

“I feel that this shone through against Edinburgh City for we fell out of the game after the break after having a really good first period.

“We really should have been three up at half-time but were only one to the good and it allowed City something to reach for and we were under quite a bit of pressure but we defended really well.”

He has added two players to his squad in the shape of the Smiths Ali and Bradley. Ali is a midfielder from Hibs and Bradley is a linkman from Dundee United. Both are athletic young players with Bradley playing on Saturday as a trialist.

The manager sees them as in the same mould of Ben Stirling who grabbed the winner on Saturday and the teenager said: “It was great to get my first goal for the club and help us get the three points.

“They came at us but it was good to show the sort of spirit that enabled us to grind out the three points.”

The Smiths will be in the squad which will go to take on the tough Gable Endies at Links Park.

Montrose have four points, like Cowden, from their opening games so it will need another steely performance to win the game which the manager knows: “We will have to show the same sort of form and attitude as we produced against Elgin and Edinburgh, but our young team are a determined bunch and Bradley and Ali will go a long way to strengthening the squad.”

Harvey Swann missed the City game but should be available for Montrose but striker Josh Morris is struggling with a knock.
