A SMALL but dedicated group of students trained with Sensei Slaney, Sensei McNeil and Thea Sinclair-Children's Instructor from Fife Shotokan, last week at the excellent facility which is the Benarty Centre when the special training camp was held.
Said Sensie Andrew McNeil: "On the first day we worked on movement in basic punching and blocking.
"We also used the Focus Pads to improve our punching power and co-ordination.
"Sensei Kevin Slaney then designed a new version of a black belt Kata: pattern of 'set' fight just for the Camp students. On the second day we practised this with brand new moves.
"Also during the second day the students worked on competition Kumite: sparring or fighting and how to score a point safely". Active Schools' Moira Fitpatrick, who kindly organised the Dojo venue and the Camp T-Shirts, visited the exponents to help take the photographs!
June Grant said: "I liked all the energy it took to do the training". While Riley Scally liked the 'In and Out' movement when practising for the Kumite!'
Ben Rafferty was not alone when he said he liked the 'Dalek' exercise where someone with outstretched arms had to go after their partner-who was just to avoid and deflect the 'Dalek!'
All in all a good Summer Camp despite some rain outside!
Campers included Riley Scally, Ben, Ryan and Kian Rafferty, June Grant, Harlie Nicol, Taylor McTurk, Imogen Swain,
and Billiee Richardson.
