THE song may say that on yonder hill there was a coo and the Blue Brazil's own shifted – but only to get a revamp for the new season.

And the man behind Cowden's iconic Bluebell mascot has joked that the club's kitman has already given him stick for making him look more like a bull than a coo!

Liam Jackson led a fundraising drive to give Bluebell a makeover and, having raised around £400, he was able to replace the previous mascot's suit that he said was suffering from some wear and tear.

Crowds at Cowdenbeath Gala Day on Saturday were able to catch a glimpse of the new-look Bluebell – as well as the club's swish new home kit – and Liam, 49, laughed: "At least I can breathe in this one - the last one was like someone had put me in a pillow case! It's definitely blue at least although I got told I looked more like a smurph or a bull than a coo by Darren the kitman, so I got slagged for that!

"It was a different suit to the one I wanted but, because of one thing and other, I had to go with it. The old one was needing a revamp because it had had a bit of wear and tear, so we did a bit of fundraising and made over £400. In December we did a sponsored walk over the Forth Road Bridge with the Blue Brazil 2005s.

"I'm not sure about the shoes though - I could take a couple of tumbles!"

Cowden supporter Liam took on the role - initially on a temporary basis - after stepping in for previous suit wearer Alex Haddow but has now been performing as Bluebell for the last 2-3 seasons.

It's a job that he enjoys doing and he hopes that the new-look mascot will bring Gary Locke's team a change of luck for the new season.

He added: "Alex one day said to me 'I'm really busy, can you do it for me?' and I said no problem. A fortnight later he said he was really busy and it was almost flung at me! It's great but sometimes you get all ready, then need the toilet so you have take it all off and put back on again!

"On a matchday we have a couple of kids in with their parents and we take them to see the players, get their programme signed and the managed gets everyone together for a photo. If I've helped make a kid's day then I've done my job."
