GARY LOCKE says he is happy with his transfer business so far but still wants to add more new faces to his squad.

And the Cowdenbeath boss is confident that he will have assembled a pool of players that will be nowhere near the trauma of last season's pyramid play-off by the time the league campaign kicks off on August 5.

The Blue Brazil players returned for pre-season training last night (Tuesday) but were without teen shot-stopper Jamie Sneddon, who last week secured a move to Premiership side Partick Thistle.

But Locke has been boosted by the news that Kyle Miller, now the club's longest serving player, put pen to paper on a new contract for next season, joining captain Scott Rumsby, Fraser Rutherford, Jamie Pyper and Harvey Swann.

Speaking to Times Sport after returning from holiday, Locke said he was looking to add "one or two bits of quality", and commented: "We've not got loads of money to spend but we had a good tie-in with Hearts last season and I hope that can be the case again this season. Through contacts I have myself with managers in the Premier League then hopefully they will see us as a good place to give some of their younger players experience.

"Jamie's moved on but Davie McGurn's there, who is a good, experienced keeper, but we need to bring another goalkeeper in and strengthen the forward area. I'm reasonably happy with our close season signings and, if we can add another one or two bits of quality, I hope we'll be ok.

"Since I came in we've only lost three out of 13 games so the players showed that they weren't as bad as their league position suggested. I was keen to keep the nucleus of the squad together because I feel as though they'd done well."

That hasn't stopped Locke from dipping into the market to bring new faces to Central Park, tying up deals for freed Raith Rovers defender David Syme – who enjoyed a successful loan spell as a Blue Brazilian last term – and Hawick Royal Albert striker Josh Morris.

He added: "We've added Josh, who is untried at this level but scored 34 goals in the same league that East Kilbride were in, and we saw from our games against them that there are good players at that level. We hope that he will carry on that type of form and I know for a fact that Elgin and Berwick were keen on him. I'd like to get a number nine, a bigger striker, to play alongside him but we feel he will be a decent acquisition.

"David did well last year too but we're still trying to add to the squad."

Meanwhile the Blues will face Hearts in a closed-door game ahead of their pre-season friendly with Queen of the South on July 1.
